TL;DR: The adsorption breakthrough behavior of nine perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwaters by four bituminous coal-based granular activated carbons was studied using rapid small-scale column tests (RSSCTs), indicating that hydrophobic interaction is important for apparent adsorbent capacity of PFAS in groundwater with low dissolved organic concentrations and low specific UV absorbances.

••
TL;DR: Surrogate predictions using UV254 and TF provide valuable tools for rapid or on-line monitoring of GAC performance and can result in cost savings by extended GAC run times as compared to using DOC breakthrough to trigger regeneration or replacement.
116 citations
••
TL;DR: This study investigated the effects of pre-ozonation as a pre-treatment for UF on the membrane fouling caused by EfOM in secondary wastewater effluents for hydrophilic regenerated cellulose and hydrophobic polyethersulfone UF membranes.

••
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a scenario study on a promising RO-PRO hybrid system to alleviate water and energy demands and found that RO plays a dominant role in determining the WERR value.

••
TL;DR: In this article, the performance of a plate and frame type membrane is investigated via a numerical simulation based on mass conservation theorem, and the results suggest that the numerical simulation can be applied to optimize both physical properties and operation conditions, thereby ensuring cost-effective operation of FO processes.

••
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the recent developments in forward osmosis (FO) focusing on the opportunities and challenges is presented, as well as a clear outline for FO-concerned researchers.

TL;DR: Many antibiotics were detected in the influents and effluents of WWTPs at concentrations close to or exceeding the predicted no-effect concentrations (PNECs) for resistance selection.

••
TL;DR: This review attempts to define the steps still required for FO to reach full-scale potential in wastewater treatment and water reclamation by discussing current novelties, bottlenecks and future perspectives of FO technology in the wastewater sector.

••
TL;DR: A comprehensive review on membrane fouling in ODMPs with a focus on the elaboration of the factors and mechanisms governing the fouling behavior is provided in this paper, where a general osmotic-resistance filtration model is presented to assist in the interpretation of the intrinsic interrelationships among those fouling factors and mechanism.

TL;DR: This work critically reviews the papers available in scientific literature on consolidated (ozonation, AC and membranes) and new advanced treatment methods (mainly AOPs) to analyse their efficiency in the removal of CECs from wastewater.
