TL;DR: In this article, a vorliegende study untersucht Lernprozesse in einem Umweltverband, in der Analyse von Interviews von Mitgliedern der Organisation wird Macht sichtbar.
Abstract: Welche Rolle spielt Macht, wenn Organisationen lernen?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined how the different factors affect the students' perception of the formal and informal requirements of the first year as more or less difficult to cope with, and found that the differences in the perception largely depend on the individual factors self-efficacy and volition.
Abstract: In the light of growing university entry rates, higher education institutions not only serve larger numbers of students, but also seek to meet first-year students’ ever more diverse needs. Yet to inform universities how to support the transition to higher education, research only offers limited insights. Current studies tend to either focus on the individual factors that affect student success or they highlight students’ social background and their educational biography in order to examine the achievement of selected, non-traditional groups of students. Both lines of research appear to lack integration and often fail to take organisational diversity into account, such as different types of higher education institutions or degree programmes. For a more comprehensive understanding of student diversity, the present study includes individual, social and organisational factors. To gain insights into their role for the transition to higher education, we examine how the different factors affect the students’ perception of the formal and informal requirements of the first year as more or less difficult to cope with. As the perceived requirements result from both the characteristics of the students and the institutional context, they allow to investigate transition at the interface of the micro and the meso level of higher education. Latent profile analyses revealed that there are no profiles with complex patterns of perception of the first-year requirements, but the identified groups rather differ in the overall level of perceived challenges. Moreover, SEM indicates that the differences in the perception largely depend on the individual factors self-efficacy and volition.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide an overview of the potentials and limitations of quantitative and qualitative methods in the research domain, and they show the need for a conceptual framework grounded in the theory of the research object to guide the integration of different methods and findings.
Abstract: The methodological discourse of mixed-methods research offers general procedures to combine quantitative and qualitative methods for investigating complex fields of research such as higher education. However, integrating different methods still poses considerable challenges. To move beyond general recommendations for mixed-methods research, this chapter proposes to discuss methodological issues with respect to a particular research domain. Taking current studies on the transition to higher education as an example, the authors first provide an overview of the potentials and limitations of quantitative and qualitative methods in the research domain. Second, they show the need for a conceptual framework grounded in the theory of the research object to guide the integration of different methods and findings. Finally, an example study that investigates transition with regard to the interplay of the individual student and the institutional context serves to illustrate the guiding role of theory. The framework integrates different theoretical perspectives on transition, informs the selection of the research methods, and defines the nexus of the two strands that constitute the mixed-methods design. As the interplay of individual and context is of concern for teaching and learning in general, the example presented may be fruitful for the wider field of higher education research.

TL;DR: A detailed review of the education sector in Australia as in the data provided by the 2006 edition of the OECD's annual publication, 'Education at a Glance' is presented in this paper.
Abstract: A detailed review of the education sector in Australia as in the data provided by the 2006 edition of the OECD's annual publication, 'Education at a Glance' is presented. While the data has shown that in almost all OECD countries educational attainment levels are on the rise, with countries showing impressive gains in university qualifications, it also reveals that a large of share of young people still do not complete secondary school, which remains a baseline for successful entry into the labour market.

TL;DR: In this article, a concept of accountability that can be used across diverse policy fields is proposed, drawing on three very different examples (regulation of the Internet, public-private partners, and Corporate Social Responsibility) of areas in which accountability issues are being raised, in order to explore the expectations, relationships and practices.
Abstract: The call for more accountability can be heard in many societal domains, leading to the suggestion that we are living in an “Age of Accountability.” It is striking that the discussion is running parallel in diverse fields, with little or no connection being made between the various attempts to clarify the concept and the issues encountered in practice. This contribution draws on three very different examples (regulation of the Internet, Public-Private Partnerships, and Corporate Social Responsibility) of areas in which accountability issues are being raised, in order to explore the expectations, relationships and practices. The intention is to propose a concept of accountability that can be used across diverse policy fields.

TL;DR: The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a relatively recent addition to the agenda in Germany, although the country has a long history of companies practicing social responsibilities.
Abstract: The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a relatively recent addition to the agenda in Germany, although the country has a long history of companies practicing social responsibilities. The expectations of society had remained stable for many years, encapsulated in laws, societal norms, and industrial relations agreements. But the past decade has seen significant changes in Germany, challenging established ways of treating the role of business in society. This contribution reviews and illustrates the development of diverse forms of social responsibility in German corporations and analyzes how actors in business and society can build on traditional strengths to find new institutional arrangements for sharing tasks and responsibilities in the interests of achieving a better balance between societal, economic, and environmental needs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the effect of the Weiterentwicklung der Mobilitatsangebote nach Kriterien der Individualisierbarkeit and Routinefahigkeit on intermodal Dienste.
