Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of curcumin on the apoptosis of rodent and human nonproliferating and proliferating lymphoid cells.
Anna Bielak-Zmijewska,Mirosława Koronkiewicz,Janusz Skierski,Katarzyna Piwocka,Ewa Radziszewska,Ewa Sikora +5 more
TL;DR: Data showed that curcumin induces cell death in all tested cells that can be classified as apoptosis-like, and only in HL-60 cells can it be recognized as classical apoptosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerivastatin demonstrates enhanced antitumor activity against human breast cancer cell lines when used in combination with doxorubicin or cisplatin
Katarzyna Kozar,Rafal Kaminski,Magdalena Legat,Maciej Kopec,Dominika Nowis,Janusz Skierski,Mirosława Koronkiewicz,Marek Jakóbisiak,Jakub Golab +8 more
TL;DR: Cerivastatin potentiated cytostatic/cytotoxic effects of cisplatin against T4-2 cells and those of doxorubicin against both cell lines and these studies indicate that cervastatin is another HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor with potent antitumor effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autophagic cell death and premature senescence: New mechanism of 5-fluorouracil and sulforaphane synergistic anticancer effect in MDA-MB-231 triple negative breast cancer cell line.
Małgorzata Milczarek,Katarzyna Wiktorska,Lidia Mielczarek,Mirosława Koronkiewicz,Aleksandra Dąbrowska,Katarzyna Lubelska,Dariusz Matosiuk,Zdzisław Chilmonczyk +7 more
TL;DR: Studies of the interaction mechanism have revealed that sulforaphane and 5-fluorouracil act synergistically in the MDA-MB-231 cells by inducing autophagic cell death and premature senescence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design and studies of multiple mechanism of anti-Candida activity of a new potent Trp-rich peptide dendrimers.
Paulina Zielińska,Monika Staniszewska,Małgorzata Bondaryk,Mirosława Koronkiewicz,Zofia Urbańczyk-Lipkowska +4 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that membranolytic dendrimer 14, targeting cellular apoptotic pathway and impairing the cell wall formation in mature biofilm, may be a potential multifunctional antifungal lead compound for the control of C. albicans infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potentiated antitumor effects of the combination treatment with statins and pamidronate in vitro and in vivo.
Tadeusz Issat,Dominika Nowis,Magdalena Legat,Marcin Makowski,Marcin P Klejman,Jakub Urbanski,Janusz Skierski,Mirosława Koronkiewicz,Tomasz Stoklosa,Agnieszka Brzezinska,Jacek Bil,Jan Gietka,Marek Jakóbisiak,Jakub Golab +13 more
TL;DR: The combination of statins and pamidronate, a second generation bisphosphonate, demonstrates promising antitumor effects at doses readily achievable in patients, and holds promise for future clinical studies.
