The Clinical Use of Human Culture–Expanded Autologous Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Transplanted on Platelet-Rich Fibrin Glue in the Treatment of Articular Cartilage Defects: A Pilot Study and Preliminary Results

TL;DR: Testing the hypothesis that platelet-rich fibrin glue can be used clinically as a scaffold to deliver autologous culture-expanded bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) for cartilage repair and to report clinical results 1 y after implantation of MSCs PR-FG found it to be effective.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interferon-α gene therapy prevents aflatoxin and carbon tetrachloride promoted hepatic carcinogenesis in rats

TL;DR: IFN-alpha exerts significant protective effects, but more so when the gene is administered before fibrogenic and carcinogenic induction in hepatic tissues, and may be justified in clinical trials for high-risk candidates with hepatic carcinogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of a novel curcumin derivative on insulin synthesis and secretion in streptozotocin-treated rat pancreatic islets in vitro

TL;DR: NCD improved insulin synthesis and secretion in vitro in isolated pancreatic islets treated with STZ through inhibition of the JNK pathway, up-regulation of the gene expressions of HO-1, TCF7L2, and GLP-1 and enhancing effects on calcium and zinc levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of carnosine on bilharzial infestation in hamsters: biochemical and histochemical studies.

TL;DR: Results indicate that parasitic infestation induced elevation in serum alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transferase, aspartate aminotransferase and procollagen III peptide as a marker of liver fibrosis, which was lowered in infested groups treated with carnosine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Heme Oxygenase Inducers and Inhibitors on Molecular Signaling of Erectile Function

TL;DR: The use of either NOS or HO inducers can equally enhance erectile function via up regulation of gene expression of the two signaling genes involved in erection as well as through upregulation of the tissue levels of cGMP, the mediator of vasodilatation.
