Bimetallic nanoparticles offer unique chemical, physical and optical properties that are not available for monometallic nanoparticles. Bimetallic nanoparticles play a major role in various therapeutic, industrial and energy fields. Recently, nanoparticles of Copper/Zinc bimetallic nanoparticles have attracted attention in various fields, especially medicine. In this study, bimetallic CuO/ZnO nanostructures were biosynthesized using plant extracts. The plant-mediated synthesis nanoparticles were characterized by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDAX). The cytotoxicity of plant-mediated synthesis bimetallic nanoparticles and the synergistic effects of these nanoparticles in combination with the anticancer drug doxorubicin on MCF-7 cancer cells were evaluated by MTT assay.

Cytotoxicity evaluation of environmentally friendly synthesis Copper/Zinc bimetallic nanoparticles on MCF-7 cancer cells

Greener methods for the synthesis of various nanostructures with well-organized characteristics and biomedical applicability have demonstrated several advantages, including simplicity, low toxicity, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness. Spinel nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) nanowhiskers with rod-like structures were synthesized using a simple and green method; these nanostructures were evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray energy diffraction spectroscopy. Additionally, the prepared nanowhiskers could significantly reduce the survival of Leishmania major promastigotes, at a concentration of 500 μg/mL; the survival of promastigotes was reduced to ≃ 26%. According to the results obtained from MTT test (in vitro), it can be proposed that further studies should be conducted to evaluate anti-leishmaniasis activity of these types of nanowhiskers in animal models.

Biosynthesis of spinel nickel ferrite nanowhiskers and their biomedical applications.

In this research, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) were prepared via a facile one-pot chemical precipitation approach and applied in the adsorption of bromophenol blue (BRB) and as antifungal agents against the filamentous fungi and plant pathogens; Alternaria alternata CGJM3078, Alternaria alternata CGJM3006 and Fusarium verticilliodes CGJM3823. The ZnONPs were characterized by the UV–Vis, FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET, SEM, TEM, and EDX techniques, which showed efficient synthesis. The characteristics ZnO UV–Vis absorption band was observed at 375 nm, while the XRD showed an average ZnONPs crystalline size of 47.2 nm. The SEM and TEM images showed an irregular shaped and aggregated porous structure of 65.3 nm average-sized ZnONPs. The TGA showed 22.9% weight loss at 800 °C indicating the high thermal stability of ZnONPs, while BET analysis revealed a surface area, pore volume and pore diameter of 9.259 m2/g, 0.03745 cm3/g and 9.87 nm respectively. The Freundlich, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models showed R2 > 0.9494 and SSE   A. alternata CGJM3078 (range from 22.73 to 30.63 mm) in comparison to Bleach 5% (positive control). Additionally a model was proposed based on the possible underlying mechanisms for the antifungal effect. This research demonstrated the potent use of ZnONPs for the adsorption of BRB and as effective antifungal agents.

Doped and un-doped cerium oxide nanoparticles: Biosynthesis, characterization, and cytotoxic study

Role of agrochemical-based nanomaterials in plants: biotic and abiotic stress with germination improvement of seeds

In this study, potassium-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (K-doped ZnO NPs) were green-synthesized using pine pollen extracts based on bioethics principles. The synthesized NPs were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The cytotoxicity of these nanoparticles (NPs) on normal macrophage cells and cancer cell lines was evaluated. In the same concentrations of K-doped ZnO and pure ZnO NPs, K-doped ZnO NPs demonstrated higher toxicity. The results confirmed that the doped potassium could increase cytotoxicity. The IC50 of K-doped ZnO NPs, pure ZnO NPs, and the examined control drug were 497 ± 15, 769 ± 12, and 606 ± 19 µg/mL, respectively. Considering the obtained IC50 of K-doped ZnO NPs, they were more toxic to the cancer cell lines and had less cytotoxicity on normal macrophage cells.

Cytotoxicity properties of plant-mediated synthesized K-doped ZnO nanostructures.

Background: NPs (NPs) with unique chemical and physical properties can be used for therapeutic purposes because of their strong antimicrobial activates. NPs have been used as an antimicrobial agents to inhibit microbial growth.Objectives: In view of the strong antimicrobial activity of NPs, the biogenic synthesis and leishmanicidal activity of rod-shaped zinc oxide (R-ZnO) NPs was explored using Lilium ledebourii tuber extract.Materials and Methods: The ensuing NPs are characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy and their leishmanicidal activity evaluated against the Leishmania major (L. major) by MTT assay.Results: The R-ZnO NPs displayed excellent leishmanicidal activity against the L. major as they significantly inhibited the amastigotes. The IC50 values of R-ZnO NPs being ~ 0.001 mg.mL-1. R-ZnO NPs can inhibit L. major growth in a dose-dependent manner under in vitro conditions.Conclusion: A simple, low-cost feasible and eco-friendly procedure was developed for biosynthesis of R-ZnO NPs using natural bioresource that can inhibit human parasite cells growth in a dose-dependent manner under in vitro conditions.

Greener synthesis of Rod Shaped Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles using Lilium ledebourii tuber and evaluation of their Leishmanicidal activity.

A novel lanthanum (III) complex with 8-Hq = 8-hydroxy quinoline and phen-dione = 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione was synthesized using the reflux method. The complex was characterized using elemental analyses, cyclic voltammetry technique, electronic absorption spectroscopy, H-NMR spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. Then, La2O2(SO4) nanostructure (NS La-s) was obtained from the lanthanum (III) complex as a precursor after calcination at 700 °C for 4 h. The thermal stability of nanostructure was determined by the thermal gravimetric method. SEM results showed that the morphology of La2O2(SO4) was spiral-like. The cytotoxicity of La-s NS was studied using cell viability assay on neuroblastoma-N2a cell line culture. The results ranked the cytotoxicity activity of La-s NS in N2a cell line to IC50 =  ~ 22 μg mL− 1.
