Journal ArticleDOI
Tsetse flies: their biology and control using area-wide integrated pest management approaches.
TL;DR: It is argued that sustainable tsetse-free zones can be created on Africa mainland provided certain managerial and technical prerequisites are in place and the principles of area-wide integrated pest management (AW-IPM) and the phased-conditional approach with the tsete project in Senegal as a recent example are argued.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using species distribution models to optimize vector control in the framework of the tsetse eradication campaign in Senegal
Ahmadou Hamady Dicko,Renaud Lancelot,Momar Talla Seck,Laure Guerrini,Baba Sall,Mbargou Lo,Marc J.B. Vreysen,Thierry Lefrançois,Thierry Lefrançois,William M. Fonta,Steven L. Peck,Jérémy Bouyer +11 more
TL;DR: It is argued that the methodology developed should be integrated into future tsetse control efforts that are planned under the umbrella of the PATTEC initiative and have a generic value for vector and pest control campaigns, especially when eradication is contemplated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Population genetics as a tool to select tsetse control strategies: suppression or eradication of Glossina palpalis gambiensis in the Niayes of Senegal.
Philippe Solano,Dramane Kaba,Sophie Ravel,Naomi A. Dyer,Baba Sall,Marc J. B. Vreysen,Momar Talla Seck,Heather Darbyshir,Laëtitia Gardes,Martin J. Donnelly,Thierry De Meeûs,Thierry De Meeûs,Jérémy Bouyer +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used population genetics to measure genetic differentiation between Glossina palpalis gambiensis from the Niayes and those from the southern tsetse belt (Missira).
Journal ArticleDOI
Stratified entomological sampling in preparation for an area-wide integrated pest management program: the example of Glossina palpalis gambiensis (Diptera: Glossinidae) in the Niayes of Senegal.
Jérémy Bouyer,Momar Talla Seck,Baba Sall,Elhadji Youssou Ndiaye,Laure Guerrini,Marc J. B. Vreysen +5 more
TL;DR: A stratified entomological sampling strategy was developed using spatial analytical tools and mathematical modeling to improve the accuracy and the robustness of the sampling protocol and might be used for other vector or pest control scenarios.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ex-ante benefit-cost analysis of the elimination of a Glossina palpalis gambiensis population in the Niayes of Senegal.
Fanny Bouyer,Momar Talla Seck,Ahmadou Hamady Dicko,Baba Sall,Mbargou Lo,Marc J. B. Vreysen,Eduardo Chia,Jérémy Bouyer,Abdrahmane Wane +8 more
TL;DR: The benefit-cost analysis indicated that the tsetse elimination project in Senegal was highly cost-effective, with Internal Rates of Return (IRR) of 9.8% and 19.1% and payback periods of 18 and 13 years for the two scenarios, respectively.
