TL;DR: A wireless network system making use of mobile wireless sensors able to detect breaks and save energy, time and cost with having Smart Water Leakage Detection in pipelines, measure water level in tank and control in pump to turn it on when water level is low is designed.
Abstract: This paper focuses on an application of wireless sensor networks for leakage detection in underground water pipes to overcome the problem of water dispersion in water distribution networks. Leakage prevention and breaks identification in water distribution networks are fundamental for an adequate use of natural resources. To address this problem, and simplify the leakage identification process, the authors have designed a wireless network system making use of mobile wireless sensors able to detect breaks and save energy, time and cost with having Smart Water Leakage Detection (SWLD) in pipelines, measure water level in tank and control in pump to turn it on when water level is low. It focuses mainly on two parts: The first part is alarm based on Global System for Mobile technology (GSM) to send Short Message Service (SMS) to the owner. The system is made up of basic components: sensors, GSM module, Arduino, relays to control the device. The second is the controlling part; it uses Android application mobile to control the pump. The result of using the proposed system is improving the efficiency of operation, reducing delay time and cost of maintenance pipelines after leakage detection.

TL;DR: A method that utilizes smartphone microelectronic mechanical technology for speed bump detection using the gravity sensor to detect the vertical vibration of cars passes over bumps and the GPS to determine the position of the bump is proposed.
Abstract: Although speed bumps are used to force drivers reduce car speed for avoiding accidents, these bumps may cause car crash or accident when drivers do not notice them. Studies have proposed different methods to detect bumps and alert drivers. However, these methods have limitations and require modifications to enable accurate detection. Also these methods did not propose speed reduction approaches. Therefore, in this research, we propose a method that utilizes smartphone microelectronic mechanical technology for speed bump detection. The system uses the gravity sensor to detect the vertical vibration of cars passes over bumps and the GPS to determine the position of the bump. To give accurate detection results, data are collected from crowd, stored and processed on the cloud. The system also contains a speed reduction unit which is attached to the brake pedal and reduces the speed if a bump is detected. A small scale experiment showed that the system detected the position and the height of bumps with a very small error. The system also reduced the speed of cars at the moment they hit the bumps to a point that does not cause any harm to cars or passengers.

TL;DR: This paper work studies Nablus as one of the major Palestinian cities and applies techniques to design a 3G radio network, in particular the planning and implementation in developing countries, and state of Palestine as a case study.
Abstract: Third Generation cellular networks (3G) were developed with the aim of offering high data rates up to 2Mbps and 384Kbps for stationary and mobile users respectively which allows the operators to offer a multimedia connectivity and other data services to the end customers. In this work we apply techniques to design a 3G radio network, in particular we study the planning and implementation in developing countries, and state of Palestine as a case study. In order to carry a 3G radio network planning for a selected regions, we must follow a roadmap consists of set of phases; First of all, we must determine the region under study on the digitized map in order to obtain some useful information, such as the area distribution; thus using digital maps gives a good clearness for areas classification, land use, land terrain, heights, vectors, etc. Also we must forecast subscriber profile to perform coverage and capacity dimensioning process to achieve nominal cell plan. This paper work studies Nablus as one of the major Palestinian cities. then, subscriber forecast profile is applied in order to calculate the service traffic demand, the capacity and and coverage requirements, this study is carried in corporation with Wataniya which is one of the leading mobile telecommunication service provider in Palestine. For Nablus city we’ve found that 28 sites are required to be installed to meet the given capacity requirements, on the other hand 46 sites are for coverage. At this point we should make decision about how many site will be implemented. In general we have to select number of sites relative to coverage requirement; so to serve Nablus city by 3G services we should implement 46 sites. At final stage, we have to be sure that our proposed 3G network is suitable not only for the first year of running the 3G services over the deployed network, our design takes into consideration the growth of subscribers number and their demands, so periodically, the networking administrators and the network planning department, assess the network current status and upgrade the network to meet the future demands.

Abstract: This paper presents a technical method to monitor the water distribution pipelines against leakage and to control the pump when the water level decreases in the tank. Water leakage is the most popular cause of water wasted in the domestic water distribution systems. Nowadays most people have their smartphone nearby them; therefore, adding an interface on the smartphone to control an automated system is a big plus. Energy saving is a benefit of the Optimization Water Leakage Detection (OWLD) system. It enables us to save energy, time and cost by having smart leakage detection in pipelines, measuring the water level in the tank and controlling the pump when the water level is low. This paper focuses mainly on two parts: The first part is an alarm based on Global System for Mobile technology (GSM) to send a Short Message Service (SMS) to the owner. This is made up of the following components: sensors, GSM Module, Arduino and relays to control the device. The second is the controlling part; it uses android application mobile to control the pump. The proposed system can effectively improve the efficiency of operation, reduce delay time and cost of maintenance pipelines after leakage detection.

TL;DR: This study probes into common water-quality monitoring parameters, their safe-limits for drinking water, related smart sensors, critical review, and ratification of contemporary IoT-WQMS via a proposed empirical metric, analysis, and discussion and, finally, design recommendations for an efficient system.
Abstract: Safe water is becoming a scarce resource, due to the combined effects of increased population, pollution, and climate changes. Water quality monitoring is thus paramount, especially for domestic water. Traditionally used laboratory-based testing approaches are manual, costly, time consuming, and lack real-time feedback. Recently developed systems utilizing wireless sensor network (WSN) technology have reported weaknesses in energy management, data security, and communication coverage. Due to the recent advances in Internet-of-Things (IoT) that can be applied in the development of more efficient, secure, and cheaper systems with real-time capabilities, we present here a survey aimed at summarizing the current state of the art regarding IoT based smart water quality monitoring systems (IoT-WQMS) especially dedicated for domestic applications. In brief, this study probes into common water-quality monitoring (WQM) parameters, their safe-limits for drinking water, related smart sensors, critical review, and ratification of contemporary IoT-WQMS via a proposed empirical metric, analysis, and discussion and, finally, design recommendations for an efficient system. No doubt, this study will benefit the developing field of smart homes, offices, and cities.

TL;DR: The study shows that the research on sinkholes due to leakages in sewer and water pipelines by using WSN is still in a premature stage and needs extensive investigation and research contributions.
Abstract: Major metropolitan cities worldwide have extensively invested to secure utilities and build state-of-the-art infrastructure related to underground fluid transportation. Sewer and water pipelines make our lives extremely convenient when they function appropriately. However, leakages in underground pipe mains causes sinkholes and drinking-water scarcity. Sinkholes are the complex problems stemming from the interaction of leaked water and ground. The aim of this work is to review the existing methods for monitoring leakage in underground pipelines, the sinkholes caused by these leakages, and the viability of wireless sensor networking (WSN) for monitoring leakages and sinkholes. Herein, the authors have discussed the methods based on different objectives and their applicability via various approaches—(1) patent analysis; (2) web-of-science analysis; (3) WSN-based pipeline leakage and sinkhole monitoring. The study shows that the research on sinkholes due to leakages in sewer and water pipelines by using WSN is still in a premature stage and needs extensive investigation and research contributions. Additionally, the authors have suggested prospects for future research by comparing, analyzing, and classifying the reviewed methods. This study advocates collocating WSN, Internet of things, and artificial intelligence with pipeline monitoring methods to resolve the issues of the sinkhole occurrence.

TL;DR: Deep learning and computer vision based speed bump detection model is proposed, which assist and control the driving behavior of an IVS before it reaches to speed bump and found to be more efficient and comparable with state-of-art techniques.
Abstract: Artificial intelligence in vision based approaches have proven to be effective in various phases of intelligent vehicle system (IVS). An IVS has to intelligently take many critical decisions in heterogeneous environment. Speed bump detection is one such issue in real world due to its varying appearance in dynamic scene. The major issue is the scaling appearance of such objects from far distance and often viewed as small entity. In the proposed article, deep learning and computer vision based speed bump detection model is proposed, which assist and control the driving behavior of an IVS before it reaches to speed bump. The behavior of IVS has been explored and tested by incorporating the proposed method with a real time embedded prototype and found to be more efficient and comparable with state-of-art techniques. The overall performance of the proposed model has been achieved in terms of accuracy, precision and F-Measure as 98.54%, 99.05% and 97.89% respectively in the prepared real time environment.

TL;DR: This study presents a review of IoT-controlled water storage tanks (IoT-WST), surveying contemporary work on IoT- WST, elaborating current techniques and technologies in IoT-W ST, targeting proper hardware, and selecting a secure IoT cloud server.
Abstract: Today, a large portion of the human population around the globe has no access to freshwater for drinking, cooking, and other domestic applications. Water resources in numerous countries are becoming scarce due to over urbanization, rapid industrial growth, and current global warming. Water is often stored in the aboveground or underground tanks. In developing countries, these tanks are maintained manually, and in some cases, water is wasted due to human negligence. In addition, water could also leak out from tanks and supply pipes due to the decayed infrastructure. To address these issues, researchers worldwide turned to the Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology to efficiently monitor water levels, detect leakage, and auto refill tanks whenever needed. Notably, this technology can also supply real-time feedback to end-users and other experts through a webpage or a smartphone. Literature reveals a plethora of review articles on smart water monitoring, including water quality, supply pipes leakage, and water waste recycling. However, none of the reviews focus on the IoT-based solution to monitor water level, detect water leakage, and auto control water pumps, especially at the induvial level that form a vast proportion of water consumers worldwide. To fill this gap in the literature, this study presents a review of IoT-controlled water storage tanks (IoT-WST). Some important contributions of our work include surveying contemporary work on IoT-WST, elaborating current techniques and technologies in IoT-WST, targeting proper hardware, and selecting a secure IoT cloud server.
