TL;DR: RNA expression analysis from isolated fibre cells reveals the key regulatory and structural genes involved in fibre formation and expands the understanding of the molecular basis of fibre formation laying the foundation for the genetic improvement of jute.
Journal ArticleDOI
Translational regulation by bacterial small RNAs via an unusual Hfq-dependent mechanism.
TL;DR: It is reported that manX translation is controlled by a molecular role-reversal mechanism where Hfq, not the sRNA, is the direct repressor, and the results suggest that the sRNAs recruit H fq to its binding site or stabilize the mRNA-Hfq complex.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved salt tolerance of jute plants expressing the katE gene from Escherichia coli
Md. Shahidul Islam,Muhammad S. Azam,Sazia Sharmin,Abu Ashfaqur Sajib,Md. Maksudul Alam,Md. Shamim Reza,Rajib Ahmed,Haseena Khan +7 more
TL;DR: A tissue culture independent method for introducing a CMV 35S promoter driven katE gene from Escherichia coli K12 into a popular jute cultivar (Corchorus olitorius var O-72) in Bangladesh showed that transgenic plants were more tolerant as compared to wild plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Translation inhibition from a distance: The small RNA SgrS silences a ribosomal protein S1-dependent enhancer.
TL;DR: It is reported that SgrS forms a duplex with a uridine‐rich translation‐enhancing element in the manY 5ʹ untranslated region and it is shown that the enhancer is ribosome‐dependent and that the small ribosomal subunit protein S1 interacts with the enhancers to promote translation of manY.
Journal ArticleDOI
Xyloglucan endotransglycosylase/hydrolase genes from a susceptible and resistant jute species show opposite expression pattern following Macrophomina phaseolina infection.
Sazia Sharmin,Muhammad S. Azam,Shahidul Islam,Abu Ashfaqur Sajib,Niaz Mahmood,A. M. Mahedi Hasan,Razib Ahmed,Kishwar Sultana,Haseena Khan +8 more
TL;DR: The involvement of XTH in molecular interactions between M. phaseolina and jute is confirmed, however, it remains to be explored whether XTH is an essential component of the signaling pathway involved in plant-fungal interaction.
