Journal ArticleDOI

Ternary Copper Complexes for Photocleavage of DNA by Red Light: Direct Evidence for Sulfur-to-Copper Charge Transfer and d-d Band Involvement

TL;DR: The results indicate that the phen ligand is necessary for DNA binding of the complex, and both the sulfur-to-copper charge transfer band and copper d-d band excitations helped the DNA cleavage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxidative cleavage of DNA by a dipyridoquinoxaline copper(II) complex in the presence of ascorbic acid.

TL;DR: In this article, the triclinic space group P-1 with the unit cell parameters a=8.646(2) $\AA, b=12.290(5) \AA, c=14.283(4) ''AA'', α=94.69(2), β=91.60 (3)°, V=1481.7(8)''AA^3'' and Z=2.145(3)
Journal ArticleDOI

DNA Cleavage by New Oxovanadium(IV) Complexes of N-Salicylidene α-Amino Acids and Phenanthroline Bases in the Photodynamic Therapy Window

TL;DR: The binding site size, thermal melting, and viscosity data suggest DNA surface and/or groove binding nature of the complexes, which show efficient DNA cleavage activity on irradiation with UV-A light of 365 nm via a mechanistic pathway involving formation of singlet oxygen as the reactive species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis, crystal structure, DNA binding and photo-induced DNA cleavage activity of (S-methyl-l-cysteine)copper(II) complexes of heterocyclic bases

TL;DR: Control DNA cleavage experiments suggest major groove binding propensity for the dppz complex, while the phen and dpq complexes bind at the minor groove of DNA, and chemically significant non-covalent interactions like hydrogen bonding involving the axial aqua ligand and pi-pi interactions between dppZ ligands.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metal-assisted red light-induced DNA cleavage by ternary L-methionine copper(II) complexes of planar heterocyclic bases

TL;DR: The DNA cleavage activity of the dpq complex is found to be significantly more than its dppz and phen analogues, and control cleavage experiments using pUC19 supercoiled DNA and distamycin suggest major groove binding for the dppZ and minor groovebinding for the other complexes.
