Journal ArticleDOI
Inadequate knowledge about snakebite envenoming symptoms and application of harmful first aid methods in the community in high snakebite incidence areas of Myanmar.
Mohammad Afzal Mahmood,Dale Halliday,Robert G. Cumming,Khin Thida Thwin,Mya Myitzu,Julian White,Sam Alfred,David A. Warrell,David Bacon,Win Naing,Htay Aung,Myat Myat Thein,Nyein Nyein Chit,Sara Serhal,Myat Thet Nwe,Pyae Phyo Aung,Chen Au Peh +16 more
TL;DR: The community is aware of snakebites as a major public health issue and know how to prevent them, however, the high incidence of snakebite point to lack of application of preventive methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The assessment of the situation of snakebite and antivenom in ASEAN is crucial for countries or regions where snakebites are prevalent to recognise their current standpoint to inform the development of strategies to achieve the goal set by the WHO of halving the global burden of snake bite by 2030.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
Estimating economic and disease burden of snakebite in ASEAN countries using a decision analytic model
Chanthawat Patikorn,Jörg Blessmann,Myat Thet Nwe,Patrick Tiglao,Taksa Vasaruchapong,Tri Maharani,Uyen Vy Doan,Syafiq Asnawi Zainal Abidin,Ahmad Khaldun Ismail,Iekhsan Othman,Suthira Taychakhoonavudh,Nathorn Chaiyakunapruk +11 more
TL;DR: The estimated high burden of snakebite in ASEAN was demonstrated despite the availability of domestically produced antivenoms and most burdens were attributed to premature deaths from snakebite envenoming which suggested that the remarkably high burdenof snakebite could be averted.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Bayesian phase 2 model based adaptive design to optimise antivenom dosing: Application to a dose-finding trial for a novel Russell’s viper antivenom in Myanmar
James A Watson,James A Watson,Thomas Lamb,Jane Holmes,David A. Warrell,Khin Thida Thwin,Zaw Lynn Aung,Min Zaw Oo,Myat Thet Nwe,Frank Smithuis,Elizabeth A. Ashley,Elizabeth A. Ashley +11 more
TL;DR: A model based, Bayesian phase 2 type, adaptive clinical trial design is proposed for the characterisation of optimal initial antivenom doses in contexts where both efficacy and toxicity are measured as binary endpoints.
