Journal ArticleDOI
Addition of treatment for trichomoniasis to syndromic management of urethritis in Malawi: a randomized clinical trial.
Matthew Price,Dickman Zimba,Irving F. Hoffman,S. Cornelia Kaydos-Daniels,William C. Miller,Francis Martinson,David Chilongozi,Ester Kip,Esnath Msowoya,Marcia M. Hobbs,Peter N. Kazembe,Myron S. Cohen +11 more
TL;DR: In areas with a high prevalence of trichomoniasis, the addition of metronidazole to the syndromic management of male urethritis can eliminate infection with T vaginalis and may help to reduce the transmission of HIV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immune perturbations in HIV-1–infected individuals who make broadly neutralizing antibodies
M. A. Moody,Isabela Pedroza-Pacheco,Nathan Vandergrift,C Chui,Krissey E. Lloyd,R Parks,Kelly A. Soderberg,Ane Ogbe,Myron S. Cohen,Liao H-X.,Feng Gao,Andrew J. McMichael,David C. Montefiori,Laurent Verkoczy,Garnett Kelsoe,Jinghe Huang,P R Shea,Mark Connors,Persephone Borrow,Barton F. Haynes +19 more
TL;DR: It is found that broadly neutralizing antibody production associates with particular immune traits, including a higher frequency of autoantibodies, fewer regulatory T cells, and more circulating memory T follicular helper cells, in HIV-1–infected individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methods for Detection of Trichomonas vaginalis in the Male Partners of Infected Women: Implications for Control of Trichomoniasis
Marcia M. Hobbs,Dana Lapple,Lisa F. Lawing,Jane R. Schwebke,Myron S. Cohen,Heidi Swygard,Julius Atashili,Peter A. Leone,William C. Miller,Arlene C. Sena +9 more
TL;DR: The majority of male sexual partners in this study were infected, emphasizing the importance of partner evaluation and treatment and reliable detection of T. vaginalis in male partners required multiple specimens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection and biologic characterization of infectious HIV-1 in semen of seropositive men
P. Vernazza,P. Vernazza,Joseph J. Eron,Myron S. Cohen,Charles van der Horst,Luigi Troiani,Susan A. Fiscus +6 more
TL;DR: The compatibility of epidemiologic data with the finding that significantly more HIV is recovered in semen from patients with advanced disease, suggests that HIV culture of semen samples may provide a useful surrogate marker to measure infectivity in clinical studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular events in the activation of human neutrophils for microbial killing
TL;DR: Human neutrophils provide protection from a variety of microbes; neutropenia or neutrophil dysfunction can both have serious clinical consequences.
