Using nearly full-genome HIV sequence data improves phylogeny reconstruction in a simulated epidemic
Gonzalo Yebra,Emma B. Hodcroft,Manon Ragonnet-Cronin,Deenan Pillay,Andrew Brown,Christophe Fraser,Paul Kellam,Tulio de Oliveira,Ann M Dennis,Anne Hoppe,Cissy Kityo,Dan Frampton,Deogratius Ssemwanga,Frank Tanser,Jagoda Keshani,Jairam R. Lingappa,Joshua T. Herbeck,Maria J. Wawer,Max Essex,Myron S. Cohen,N Paton,Oliver Ratmann,Pontiano Kaleebu,Richard J. Hayes,Sarah Fidler,Thomas C. Quinn,Vladimir Novitsky,Andrew Haywards,Eleni Nastouli,Steven Morris,Duncan A. Clark,Zisis Kozlakidis +31 more
TL;DR: Using longer sequences derived from nearly whole genomes will improve the reliability of phylogenetic reconstruction, particularly when based on short sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single- and multiple-dose pharmacokinetics of darunavir plus ritonavir and etravirine in semen and rectal tissue of HIV-negative men.
Kevin C. Brown,Kristine B. Patterson,Steven H. Jennings,Stephanie Malone,Nicholas J. Shaheen,Heather M.A. Prince,Melissa Spacek,Myron S. Cohen,Angela D. M. Kashuba +8 more
TL;DR: The high protein-unbound exposures in SP and total exposures in RT support further investigations of darunavir plus ritonavir and etravirine in secondary prevention and high RT concentrations may also be favorable for suppressing viral replication in the gastrointestinal mucosa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving the accuracy of syndromic diagnosis of genital ulcer disease in Malawi.
Cathrine Hoyo,Irving F. Hoffman,Barry K. Moser,Marcia M. Hobbs,Peter N. Kazembe,Robert Krysiak,Robert Krysiak,Myron S. Cohen +7 more
TL;DR: Unweighted algorithms can be used to improve diagnostic accuracy of GUD, and a decrease in the proportion of sexually transmitted disease attributable to GUD was noted in 7 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined oral contraceptives and antiretroviral PK/PD in Malawian women: pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a combined oral contraceptive and a generic combined formulation antiretroviral in Malawi.
Gretchen S. Stuart,Agnes Moses,Amanda H Corbett,Grace Phiri,Wiza Kumwenda,Nkhafwire Mkandawire,Joseph Chintedze,Gabriel Malunga,Mina C. Hosseinipour,Myron S. Cohen,Frank Z. Stanczyk,Angela D. M. Kashuba +11 more
TL;DR: This letter to the editor addresses the concern regarding women who are HIV positive and interested in oral contraceptives and health care professionals must understand the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics between COC pills and ART treatments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sexually transmitted diseases and human immunodeficiency virus infection: Cause, effect, or both?☆
Myron S. Cohen,William C. Miller +1 more
TL;DR: Women are more susceptible to infection than men, through vaginal intercourse, and any factor affecting excretion of HIV or the number of receptive cells can be expected to affect the efficiency of transmission.
