TL;DR: In this article, the reaction of the bi-and tetradentate Schiff bases with MoO2(acac)2 in 2:1 and 1:1 ratios, respectively, gave diamagnetic molybdenum(VI) mononuclear complexes having the general formulas cis- [MoO2 (L)2] (LH = bidentate Schiff base, sal-AH, salPH or sal-TH).
Abstract: Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of bi- and tetradentate Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and amines such as p-anisidine, m-phenetidine, p-toluidine, o-, m- and p-phenylene- diamine and benzidine have been synthesised. Reactions of the bi- and tetradentate Schiff bases with MoO2(acac)2 in 2:1 and 1:1 ratios, respectively, gave diamagnetic molybdenum(VI) mononuclear complexes having the general formulas cis- [MoO2(L)2] (LH = bidentate Schiff base, sal-AH, sal-PH or sal-TH), cis- [MoO2(L1)] (L1H2 = tetradentate Schiff base with o-phenylene- diamine, sal-ophdH2), the ligand bridged dinuclear complexes, cis-[Mo2o4(L2)(OCH3)2] (L2H2 = tetradentate Schiff base with m- and p-phenylenediamine, sal-m-phdH2 or sal-p-phdH2) and cis- [Mo2O4(L3)(OCH3)2(dmf)2] (L3H2 = tetradentate Schiff base with benzidine, sal-bzH2). These complexes were characterised by molar conductance, elemental analyses, IR, UV-vis, and 1H NMR spectra and cyclic voltammetry.

TL;DR: Schiff bases, named after Hugo Schiff, are aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by imine or azomethine group.
Abstract: Schiff bases, named after Hugo Schiff, are aldehyde- or ketone-like compounds in which the carbonyl group is replaced by imine or azomethine group. They are widely used for industrial purposes and also have a broad range of applications as antioxidants. An overview of antioxidant applications of Schiff bases and their complexes is discussed in this review. A brief history of the synthesis and reactivity of Schiff bases and their complexes is presented. Factors of antioxidants are illustrated and discussed. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
