Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial and fungal coinfection among hospitalized patients with COVID-19: a retrospective cohort study in a UK secondary-care setting.
Stephen Hughes,Oliver Troise,H. Donaldson,H. Donaldson,Nabeela Mughal,Nabeela Mughal,Luke S. P. Moore,Luke S. P. Moore +7 more
TL;DR: A low frequency of bacterial co-infection is found in early COVID hospital presentation, and no evidence of concomitant fungal infection is found, at least in the early phase of COVID-19.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demographic and clinical characteristics of confirmed human monkeypox virus cases in individuals attending a sexual health centre in London, UK: an observational analysis
Nicolò Girometti,Ruth Byrne,Margherita Bracchi,Joseph Heskin,Alan McOwan,Victor David Tittle,Keertie Gedela,Christopher Scott,Sheel Patel,Jesal Gohil,D. Nugent,Tara Suchak,Molly R. Dickinson,Margaret E. Feeney,Borja Mora-Peris,Katrina Stegmann,Komal Plaha,Gary W Davies,Luke S. P. Moore,Nabeela Mughal,David Asboe,Marta Boffito,Gary Whitlock +22 more
TL;DR: A high proportion of concomitant STIs and frequent anogenital symptoms is found, suggesting transmissibility through local inoculation during close skin-to-skin or mucosal contact, during sexual activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transmission of monkeypox virus through sexual contact – A novel route of infection
Joseph Heskin,Amy Belfield,C. Milne,Nicklas Brown,Yasmin Walters,Christopher Scott,Margherita Bracchi,Luke S. P. Moore,Nabeela Mughal,Tommy Rampling,Alan Winston,M Nelson,Sarah Duncan,David Price,Borja Mora-Peris +14 more
TL;DR: Green et al. as mentioned in this paper reported the first case of infection with documented transmission through sex in the UK, where the receptive partner was the insertive partner during both anal and oro-anal sex and both individuals were commenced on high-dose oral antiviral and antibacterial medication and managed in the out-patient setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Point-of-care serological assays for delayed SARS-CoV-2 case identification among health-care workers in the UK: a prospective multicentre cohort study.
Scott J C Pallett,Scott J C Pallett,Michael Rayment,Aatish Patel,Sophia A M Fitzgerald-Smith,Sarah J Denny,Esmita Charani,Annabelle Mai,Kimberly Gilmour,James Hatcher,Christopher Scott,Paul Randell,Nabeela Mughal,Rachael Jones,Luke S. P. Moore,Luke S. P. Moore,Gary W Davies +16 more
TL;DR: There was variation in test performance between the lateral flow serological assays; however, the Encode assay displayed reasonable IgG sensitivity and specificity among PCR-proven cases and good agreement with the laboratory immunoassay, and seroprevalence across the entire workforce was estimated at 18·0%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessing a novel, lab-free, point-of-care test for SARS-CoV-2 (CovidNudge): a diagnostic accuracy study.
Malick M. Gibani,Malick M. Gibani,Christofer Toumazou,Mohammadreza Sohbati,Rashmita Sahoo,Maria Karvela,Tsz-Kin Hon,Sara de Mateo,Alison Burdett,K. Y.Felice Leung,Jake Barnett,Arman Orbeladze,Song Luan,Stavros Pournias,Jiayang Sun,Barney Flower,Barney Flower,Judith Bedzo-Nutakor,Maisarah Amran,Rachael Quinlan,Keira H. Skolimowska,Keira H. P. Moore,Luke S. P. Moore,Katie Jeffery,Graham S Cooke,Graham S Cooke +38 more
TL;DR: The CovidNudge platform was a sensitive, specific, and rapid point of care test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 without laboratory handling or sample pre-processing and could enable rapid decisions for clinical care and testing programmes.
