Journal ArticleDOI
Neurofilament markers for ALS correlate with extent of upper and lower motor neuron disease.
Koen Poesen,Maxim De Schaepdryver,Beatrice Stubendorff,Benjamin Gille,Petra Muckova,Sindy Wendler,Tino Prell,Thomas M. Ringer,Heidrun Rhode,Olivier Stevens,Kristl G. Claeys,Goedele Couwelier,Ann D'Hondt,Nikita Lamaire,Petra Tilkin,Dimphna Van Reijen,Sarah Gourmaud,Nadin Fedtke,Bianka Heiling,Matthias Rumpel,A. Rödiger,A. Gunkel,Otto W. Witte,Claire Paquet,Rik Vandenberghe,Julian Grosskreutz,Philip Van Damme +26 more
TL;DR: This study provides Class II evidence that elevated concentrations of CSF pNfH and NfL can accurately identify patients with ALS and shows an added value as diagnostic biomarkers for ALS, whereas the prognostic value of pNFH andNfL warrants further investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nerve Ultrasound Predicts Treatment Response in Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy-a Prospective Follow-Up.
Florian Härtig,Marlene Ross,Nele Maria Dammeier,Nadin Fedtke,Bianka Heiling,Hubertus Axer,Bernhard F. Décard,Eva Auffenberg,Marilin Koch,Tim W. Rattay,Markus Krumbholz,Antje Bornemann,Holger Lerche,Natalie Winter,Alexander Grimm +14 more
TL;DR: Nerve ultrasound has additional value not only for diagnosis, but also for classification of disease state and may predict treatment response in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrasonography of the Vagus Nerve in Parkinson's Disease.
TL;DR: Ulasonography of the vagal nerve does not reflect cellular damage caused by α-synuclein-enriched Lewy bodies in nerves of patients with Parkinson's disease, and the observed intraneuronal changes in Parkinson’s disease are not associated with ultrasonographic disruptions of thevagus nerve integrity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluating Diagnostic Ultrasound of the Vagus Nerve as a Surrogate Marker for Autonomic Neuropathy in Diabetic Patients
Bianka Heiling,Adriana Karl,Nadin Fedtke,G. Müller,Christof Kloos,Alexander Grimm,Hubertus Axer +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors analyzed the right vagus nerve cross-sectional area (CSA) of 111 patients with type 2 diabetes in comparison to 104 healthy adults and 41 patients with CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy).
