Consistent Cytotoxic-T-Lymphocyte Targeting of Immunodominant Regions in Human Immunodeficiency Virus across Multiple Ethnicities
Nicole Frahm,Bette T. Korber,Bette T. Korber,C. M. Adams,James J. Szinger,Rika Draenert,Marylyn M. Addo,Margaret E. Feeney,Karina Yusim,Kaori Sango,Nancy V. Brown,Devi SenGupta,Alicja Piechocka-Trocha,T. Simonis,F. M. Marincola,Alysse G. Wurcel,David Stone,Christopher J. Russell,P. Adolf,Daniel E. Cohen,Timothy Roach,A. StJohn,Ashok Khatri,K. Davis,James I. Mullins,Philip J. R. Goulder,Bruce D. Walker,Christian Brander +27 more
TL;DR: Factors that contribute to the immunogenicity of these highly targeted and relatively conserved sequences in HIV that may represent promising vaccine candidates for ethnically heterogeneous populations are identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and Efficacy of Chimeric Yellow Fever-Dengue Virus Tetravalent Vaccine Formulations in Nonhuman Primates
Farshad Guirakhoo,Konstantin V. Pugachev,Zhenxi Zhang,Gwendolyn A. Myers,Inessa S. Levenbook,Ken Draper,Jean Lang,Simeon W. Ocran,Fred Mitchell,Megan Parsons,Nancy V. Brown,Samantha Brandler,C. Fournier,B. Barrere,F. Rizvi,A. Travassos,Richard A. Nichols,Dennis W. Trent,Thomas P. Monath +18 more
TL;DR: This report is the first to demonstrate the safety of a recombinant DEN virus tetravalent vaccine in a formal neurovirulence test, as well as its protective efficacy in a monkey challenge model.
Journal ArticleDOI
De Novo Generation of Escape Variant-Specific CD8+ T-Cell Responses following Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte Escape in Chronic Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Infection
Todd M. Allen,Xu G. Yu,Elizabeth T. Kalife,Laura L. Reyor,Mathias Lichterfeld,Mina John,Michael Cheng,Rachel L. Allgaier,Stanley K. Mui,Nicole Frahm,Galit Alter,Nancy V. Brown,Mary N. Johnston,Eric S. Rosenberg,Simon Mallal,Christian Brander,Bruce D. Walker,Bruce D. Walker,Marcus Altfeld +18 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that de novo responses against escape variants of CD8+ T-cell epitopes can be generated in chronic HIV-1 infection and provides the rationale for developing vaccines to induce CD8- T- cell responses directed against both the wild-type and variant forms ofCD8 epitopes to prevent the emergence of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte escape variants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extensive HLA class I allele promiscuity among viral CTL epitopes
Nicole Frahm,Karina Yusim,Todd J. Suscovich,Sharon Adams,John Sidney,Peter T. Hraber,Hannah S. Hewitt,Caitlyn Linde,Daniel G. Kavanagh,Tonia Woodberry,Leah M. Henry,Kellie Faircloth,Jennifer Listgarten,Carl M. Kadie,Nebojsa Jojic,Kaori Sango,Nancy V. Brown,Eunice Pae,M. Tauheed Zaman,Florian Bihl,Ashok Khatri,Mina John,Simon Mallal,Francesco M. Marincola,Bruce D. Walker,Bruce D. Walker,Alessandro Sette,David Heckerman,Bette T. Korber,Bette T. Korber,Christian Brander +30 more
TL;DR: Functional assays confirmed the frequent recognition of HLA class I‐restricted T cell epitopes on several alternative alleles across HLAclass I supertypes and encoded on different class I loci, suggesting promiscuous binding of T helper epitopes to MHC class II molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatitis B virus infection in patients with idiopathic liver disease
T. Jake Liang,Yaacov Baruch,Edna Ben-Porath,Rafael Enat,Lucyna Bassan,Nancy V. Brown,Nurit Rimon,Hubert E. Blum,Jack R. Wands +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that infection with hepatitis B virus undetectable by conventional assays and with hepatitis C virus may represent important unrecognized causes of idiopathic chronic liver disease in Israel.
