Design of Absorption Refrigeration System Using Solar Energy Resource

Present study is aimed to investigate the relationship between blade shape of Savonius rotor and its optimum overlap, an important parameter that can improve the rotor’s performance superbly. To set a relation between rotor’s shape and its overlap, a new parameter called “trailing angle” was introduced in this study and by a novel design method, several models were designed to represent a wide range of trailing angles. The investigation has been carried out by using Reynolds Stress Method (RSM) through ANSYS Fluent commercial software package. The application of the method was validated by comparing the results of a conventional model with experimental data acquired from one of the references. Results of this study have proved that optimum overlap ratio is associated with blades’ trailing angle and by increasing the trailing angle, optimum overlap would decrease. The results also demonstrate that by application of a proper overlap ratio, power coefficient of the rotor would increase by nearly 22 percent.Copyright © 2012 by ASME

A Numerical Investigation to Study Effects of a Savonius Rotor’s Plate Shape on its Optimum Overlap Ratio

The study aims tray to improve the performance of the Al-Mansourieh gas power plant located in Iraq with a production (4 ×732 MW). By proposing a new (cooling/heating) system for air that entering the compressor by using groundwater (well water) as a renewable energy. FCU-Unit system operates according to the annual season. The calculations for the study was carried out in two stages, the first one included the thermodynamic analysis of the proposed system and finding the optimal design of space for heat exchanger. By another calculation, the amount of cooling water it was between (14.5 - 87) kg / s and the rate of airflow that reached (1.87m3/h). While the second part of this study included calculating the ideal and actual efficiency through the introduction of the actual conditions for the work of the turbine which took into account the pressure losses in the turbine inlet, exhaust pressure losses, combustion chamber pressure losses, combustion efficiency, and compressor and turbine efficiencies. Analytical results showed that heat efficiency and net capacity decrease in proportional to increasing air temperature. While the quantity of specific fuel consumed and the average heat increasing too with increasing air temperature. There for this study encouraging strongly that considering the air cooling before entering the combustion to improve the efficiency.

Characteristics Study of Gas Turbine Performance with using surface geothermal energy: Case Study of Iraq

The European geothermal heating market, at one time dominated by only a handful of countries, is set to experience a purple patch in the coming years as governments scramble to find an affordable alternative to expensive gas-fired heating. The primary focus of this study will be to investigate what effect will worldwide governance factors and economic growth on the geothermal energy output among the 27 European Countries from the time being 1996 to 2021. Using the autoregressive distributed lag, the findings shows that a significant increase in the geothermal energy industry sustainability can occur in European Union 14 (EU14) emerged economies using worldwide governance factors than in EU13 emerging economies. Among additional factors, instability in the political realm, regulatory issues in the area of quality, accountability, and voice-related issues, and the ability to curb corrupt practices contribute more positively to geothermal energy sustainability in EU14 emerged economies than in European Union 13 (EU13) emerging economies. On the other hand, government effectiveness contributes more positively to geothermal energy sustainability in EU13 emerging economies than in EU14 emerged economies. The finding implies that geothermal power sustainability in EU region countries can be significantly increased by mounting the level of worldwide governance determinants to achieve Energy Union aims by 2030. This will finally be spread to combat climate change and environmental pollution. All observations on projected calculations are valid. The confirmation was achieved with the aid of the three estimators used in the study which are the pooled mean group estimator, the mean group estimator, and the third one was dynamic fixed effect approach. This study recommended that these European countries need to put more effort in terms of being effective in worldwide governance indicators which will help in goal attainment at the societal and environmental levels. Those in charge of making laws in the European countries should get more engaged in worldwide governance scopes as this will assist in facilitating the security and sustainability of geothermal energy generation. Those in charge of making policies in the EU countries should as well lay more emphasis on the strategies that could be cointegrated and as well sustainable toward worldwide governance fractionation toward the achievement of the sustainability of geothermal power and this will drastically reduce the need or dependence on fossil fuel and emissions coming from carbon dioxide in the future time.

Rethinking the governance of geothermal power industry: The roadmap for sustainable development

The present paper aims to numerically investigate the two-dimensional flow analysis of modified Savonius wind turbine using computational fluid dynamics. The effects of the straight blade angle on the turbine performance were studied. Simulations based on the RANS equations and the SST-k-w turbulence model are used to simulate the airflow over the turbine blades. Both the static and dynamic simulations were performed. In the static simulation, the drag and lift coefficient on the Savonius turbine were directly calculated at every angular position, and the time-averaged moment and power coefficients were computed in each of the dynamic simulations. From the results, it can be concluded that the turbine with a straight blade angle of 100° model gives the better performance at higher Tip Sped Ratio (TSR) than other models.

Composite with woven ramie as reinforcement is a combination of woven from hemp plant fibers with resin adhesive (matrix) which each has different characteristics, which with the combination will produce a new material with better properties. The purpose of this study is to determine the magnitude of the influence of federate variations on the tensile strength of open holes in drilling, with the test method carried out with reference to ASTM D 5766/D 5766M-02 (Standard Test Method for Open Hole Tensile Strength of Polymer Matrix Composite Laminates). The tensile test speed used is 5 mm/minute. The data taken is the maximum tensile strength when the specimen breaks. The results of this study indicate that the change in feed rate affects the tensile strength of the ramie composite. The greater the feed rate used is in grading the ramie fiber composite, the smaller the composite tensile stress value becomes. In this study, the highest tensile strength is obtained from composites with a feed rate of 0.05 mm/rev and the lowest at a feed rate of 0.15 mm/rev. The change in spindle speed also affects the magnitude of the tensile strength in the ramie composite. As with the feed rate speed, the greater the spindle speed used to grind the composite, the lower the tensile strength of the composite. In this study, the maximum tensile strength value tends to be obtained by a composite with a spindle speed of 88 rpm and the lowest at a spindle speed of 1500 rpm. This study uses the type of chisel "brad and spur" with three kinds of diameter variations. The larger the diameter of the drill chisel used, the smaller the tensile strength of the composite obtained.
