Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative Review of Operative and Nonoperative Management of Achilles Tendon Ruptures
TL;DR: The number of publications reporting Achilles tendon ruptures is increasing, the quality of articles are increasing, and the trend for the number of reported complications is decreasing, and open repair and early mobilization give the best functional recovery and an acceptable complication rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Achilles tendinopathy: aetiology and management
TL;DR: The incidence of Achilles tendinopathy has risen as a result of greater participation in recreational and competitive sporting activities, and the condition is by no means confined to athletes: in one series of 58 patients, nearly one-third did not participate in vigorous physical activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic resonance imaging versus arthroscopy in the diagnosis of knee pathology, concentrating on meniscal lesions and ACL tears: a systematic review.
TL;DR: A systematic review of MRI and arthroscopy in the diagnosis of internal derangements of the knee and using Coleman scoring methodology to identify scientifically sound articles in a reproducible format finds MRI is highly accurate in diagnosing meniscal and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term health outcomes of youth sports injuries
TL;DR: The evidence regarding children dropping out of sport due to injury, physeal injuries and growth disturbance, studies of injuries affecting the spine and knee of young and former athletes and surgical outcome of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in children are evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early Weightbearing and Ankle Mobilization after Open Repair of Acute Midsubstance Tears of the Achilles Tendon
TL;DR: Early weightbearing with the ankle plantigrade is not detrimental to the outcome of repair after acute rupture of the Achilles tendon and shortens the time needed for rehabilitation, however, strength deficit and muscle atrophy are not prevented.
