TL;DR: A genome-wide meta-analysis of LTL is performed by pooling densely genotyped and imputed association results across large-scale European-descent studies including up to 78,592 individuals, replicating previously reported associations with increased risk of coronary artery disease and lower risk for multiple cancer types.
Journal ArticleDOI
Elevated C-Reactive Protein in Atherosclerosis — Chicken or Egg?
TL;DR: One of the most debated topics in cardiovascular medicine is whether C-reactive protein (CRP), a component of the acute-phase response, is a causal factor in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The results provide indirect evidence for the hypothesis that cellular senescence may contribute to the pathogenesis of COPD and asthma, and that lung function may reflect biological ageing primarily due to intrinsic processes, which are likely to be aggravated in lung diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the associations of genome-wide association study-derived coronary heart disease (CHD)-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with established and emerging risk factors, and the association of genomewide-association study derived lipid-associated SNPs with other risk factors and CHD events were evaluated.

TL;DR: A genetic marker associated with cardiovascular risk factors, and in particular concurrent vascular disease, appeared to independently contribute to susceptibility for AAA, given the potential genetic overlap between risk factor and disease phenotypes.
