TL;DR: An empirical assessment of the role of PAs as targets for colonization during recent range expansions shows that a small subset of the landscape receives a high proportion of colonizations by range-expanding species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seabirds and marine plastic debris in the northeastern Atlantic: A synthesis and recommendations for monitoring and research.
TL;DR: It is found that of 69 seabird species that commonly occur in the northeastern Atlantic, 25 had evidence of ingesting plastic, and that very little is known about the current prevalence of plastic ingestion and nest incorporation for many species, several of them globally threatened.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effectiveness of protected areas in the conservation of species with changing geographical ranges

TL;DR: A positive effect of PA designation on species' persistence at trailing-edge warm range margins is found, although with a decreased magnitude at higher latitudes and altitudes, which means PAs will remain an important strategy for conservation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tweeting birds: online mentions predict future citations in ornithology.
TL;DR: Variation in the Altmetric Attention Score is explored, suggesting that altmetrics (or the online activity they measure), as well as complementing traditional measures of scholarly impact in ornithology such as citations, may also anticipate or even drive them.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased use of intertidal resources benefits breeding success in a generalist gull species
TL;DR: The herring gull, Larus argentatus, is one widespread generalist that opportunistically forages within marine and terrestrial habitats that are increasingly altered by humans, and where generalist species, such as gulls, switch to an alternative resources that is available to them within their foraging range this may come at a cost of lower breeding success.
