Acid-Base Properties of Electronically Excited States of Organic Molecules

TL;DR: In this paper, the acid-base properties of electronically excited states of organic molecules are discussed and the effects of solvation on 0-0 energies are discussed. And the changes in molecular fluorescence with acidity give information about the protolytic behavior of the excited singlet state of a compound.
Journal ArticleDOI

Similar excited state pK behaviour of xanthone and the benzophenones

TL;DR: In this paper, the Foster cycle was used to estimate the excited state pK order of benzophenone in terms of the S1-T1 splitting to be expected from the nπ* and ππ* states of the unprotonated and protonated forms respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Excited singlet and triplet pK values of xanthone in aqueous solution

TL;DR: In this article, the Forster cycle was applied to triplet-triplet absorption spectra of the protonated and unprotonated species of Xanthone and showed that the second triplet state lies between S0 and S1.
