Experimental investigation on mechanical properties of AA7075-AlN composites

In the current research study, AA6351 (Al-Si-Mg) is employed as matrix material and silicon nitride (Si3N4) particles as reinforcement material to manufacture the aluminum composites (AMCs). AA6351 matrix composites incorporated with several weight fractions of Si3N4 (0, 1, 2 and 3 wt.%) were synthesized via stir casting technique. The obtained composites were characterized through a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS). EDS and XRD spectrums demonstrate the presence of Si3N4 reinforcement contents in the manufactured AMCs. The SEM analysis exhibits the even dissemination of Si3N4 particles in the Al alloy. The mechanical properties of the composites are examined by conducting several kinds of tests like compression test, impact test, tensile test and hardness test to understand the relationship between the weight percentages of reinforcement on the mechanical characteristics of the manufactured AMCs. The un-lubricant tribological characteristics of the proposed AMCs were assessed utilizing pin on disk tribometer. The hardness, compression and tensile strength of the AMCs were augmented concerning the mass proportion of reinforcement content. Finally, the wear test result reveals that the addition of nano-sized Si3N4 reinforcement contents up to a mass proportion of 3% downgrades the wear rate.

Metal matrix composites (MMCs) have been an active area of research and scientific investigation for past few years, but only in recent times, MMCs have become realistic engineering materials. In the present study, physical and tribological performance of graphite and alumina particulates reinforced AA6351 matrix composites were examined experimentally. These final composites are produced through liquid metallurgy process. To examine the worn surface morphology of the composite was evidently exposed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique. The experimental results expose the tribological properties of composites increased with inclusion of filler reinforcements.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis is a non-inflammatory degenerative disorder of joints causing disability in millions of people all over the world. WHO estimates that 10% of world’s population over 60 years of age suffers from osteoarthritis and 80% of people with osteoarthritis have limitation of movement and 25% are unable to do daily activities. Thus, making it a major cause of impairment & disability in elderly and economic burden in community. 
The purpose of the study is to compare the effects of biofeedback training along with strengthening exercises vs strengthening exercises in knee osteoarthritis subjects to reduce the symptoms of pain, loss of ROM and functional activity. 
Methods: 50 subjects diagnosed of grade-I to early grade-II osteoarthritis recruited for the studyafter obtaining an Informed consent. Each group will comprise of 25 subjects with age group ranging 40-70 years. Group A will be given biofeedback training along with the strengthening exercises of knee, Group B will be given strengthening exercises exclusively. Both the groups will undergo training for 3 days per week for 6 weeks. Each session will be of 20-30 minutes. 
Results: Parameters include WOMAC score and joint ROM, both pre-test and post-test measures will be analyzed statistically using t-test to check the effectiveness of each technique. P-value WOMAC Score showed p>0.0001 and shows significance in the biofeedback training subjects. 
Conclusion: In this study bio feedback training with the strengthening exercises shows significant improvement in quadriceps muscle strength, increase Range of Motion in knee joint and reduction in other symptoms of OA knee.

Comparative Study of Bio Feedback Training with Strengthening Exercises vs Strengthening Exercises in Osteoarthritis Knee Cases

OBJECTIVE
The aim of the study was to determine the normative values for resting length of pectoralis minor muscle among males and females with an asymptomatic shoulder in South Bengaluru.


PATIENTS AND METHODS
Two hundred and forty-six subjects with asymptomatic shoulders were taken by convenience sampling. The subjects were divided into two groups: Group A (123 males) and Group B (123 females). Pectoralis minor muscle resting length was measured on their dominant side in all subjects. Post measurement, the PMI was calculated. The normative values for both groups were determined. The mean PMI was compared between Group A and Group B and was analyzed using statistical tools.


RESULTS
In Group A, the mean average Pectoralis minor length (PML) was 14.59 ± 1.61 cm and in Group B, the mean average PML was 12.95 ± 1.42 cm which was statistically significant (p-value <0.00001). In Group A, the mean Pectoralis Minor Index (PMI) was 8.54 ± 0.88 and in Group B, the mean PMI was 8.22 ± 0.90 which was statistically significant (p-value <0.005).


CONCLUSIONS
The normative values for resting length of pectoralis minor muscle for males are 8.54 ± 0.88 and for females 8.22 ± 0.90 with an asymptomatic shoulder. There is a difference in the normative values for the resting PML in the asymptomatic shoulder by gender.

The normative values for resting length of pectoralis minor muscle among individuals with asymptomatic shoulder in South Bengaluru: a cross-sectional pilot study.

Introduction: Trapezitis is the most common musculoskeletal disorder caused by the inflammation of the trapezius muscle which leads to muscle spasms and pain in the neck. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among smartphone users ranges from 1% to 67.8%. The prevalence of neck pain in young adults among smartphone users in the past 12 months was 47.4%. Smartphone usage for prolonged periods of time causes repetitive strain of muscles. Physiotherapists utilise a wide range of interventions in the management of trapezitis including myofascial release technique and muscle energy technique. The purpose of the study is to compare the effects of myofascial release technique and muscle energy technique on pain and physical function among smartphone users with trapezitis. Methodology: 60 subjects were selected for the study and were randomly assigned to one of the two groups. Each group had 30 subjects within the age group of 18-25 years. Group A was given myofascial release technique along with cryotherapy and Group B was given muscle energy technique with cryotherapy. The parameters of the study included: Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) scale pre-test and post-test comparison done between the groups. Results: Approximate descriptive statistics and interferential statistics along with the graphical methods were used. Both pre-test and post-test measures were analysed statistically using t-test to test the effectiveness of each technique. P value between the group NPRS and NDI (p < 0.0001) shows significance in the subjects. Conclusion: It was concluded that muscle energy technique was better than myofascial release technique among smartphone users with trapezitis.
