Journal ArticleDOI
Computer analysis of monophasic action potentials: manual validation and clinically pertinent applications
TL;DR: A computer program that automates programmed electrical stimulation, digitizes at 1‐kHz sampling frequency MAP recordings up to 8 channels simultaneously, analyzes all APDs at repolarization levels from 10%–90% in 10% decrements, and automatically outputs the analyzed numerical data into spreadsheets for graphical display or statistical analysis is developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Thoracic Epidural Anesthesia with and without Autonomic Nervous System Blockade on Cardiac Monophasic Action Potentials and Effective Refractoriness in Awake Dogs
A. Meissner,Lars Eckardt,Paulus Kirchhof,Thomas P. Weber,Norbert Rolf,Günter Breithardt,Hugo Van Aken,Wilhelm Haverkamp +7 more
TL;DR: Right atrial and ventricular repolarization is investigated by recording monophasic action potentials after TEA in awake dogs and the results imply that the beneficial role of TEA might be stronger at the ventricular site as compared with the atrium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
PITX2-dependent gene regulation in atrial fibrillation and rhythm control.
TL;DR: Genome‐wide association studies have identified genetic variants associated with AF populations, with the strongest hits clustering on chromosome 4q25, close to the gene for the homeobox transcription factor PITX2, all of which may influence AF through divergent mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
A proposal for new clinical concepts in the management of atrial fibrillation
A. John Camm,Sana M. Al-Khatib,Hugh Calkins,Jonathan L. Halperin,Paulus Kirchhof,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Stanley Nattel,Jeremy N. Ruskin,Amitava Banerjee,Dan Blendea,Eduard Guasch,Matthew Needleman,Irina Savelieva,Juan F. Viles-Gonzalez,Eric S. Williams +14 more
TL;DR: New concepts in AF are highlighted, including a need for a novel multifactorial classification model encompassing AF duration, symptoms, markers of atrial remodeling, and a risk score for AF onset, persistence, progression, and complications to guide treatment and prognostication.
