Journal ArticleDOI
Theory of surface plasmons and surface-plasmon polaritons
TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical description of the many-body dynamical electronic response of solids is presented, which underlines the existence of various collective electronic excitations at metal surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI
Attosecond spectroscopy in condensed matter
A. L. Cavalieri,Norbert Müller,Thorsten Uphues,Vladislav S. Yakovlev,Andrius Baltuška,Balint Horvath,B. E. Schmidt,L. Blumel,Ronald Holzwarth,Stefan Hendel,Markus Drescher,Ulf Kleineberg,Pedro M. Echenique,Reinhard Kienberger,Ferenc Krausz,Ulrich Heinzmann +15 more
TL;DR: The ability to obtain direct time-domain access to charge dynamics with attosecond resolution by probing photoelectron emission from single-crystal tungsten is demonstrated and illustrates thatAttosecond metrology constitutes a powerful tool for exploring not only gas-phase systems, but also fundamental electronic processes occurring on the attose Cond timescale in condensed-matter systems and on surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction and observation of the first antiferromagnetic topological insulator
Mikhail M. Otrokov,I. I. Klimovskikh,Hendrik Bentmann,Alexander Zeugner,Ziya S. Aliev,Sebastian Gass,Anja U. B. Wolter,A. V. Koroleva,D. A. Estyunin,Alexander M. Shikin,María Blanco-Rey,Martin Hoffmann,Alexandra Yu. Vyazovskaya,Sergey V. Eremeev,Yury M. Koroteev,Imamaddin R. Amiraslanov,Mahammad B. Babanly,Nazim Mamedov,N. A. Abdullayev,Vladimir N. Peixoto,Friedrich Reinert,Arthur Ernst,Pedro M. Echenique,Anna Isaeva,Evgueni V. Chulkov +36 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used density functional theory and Monte Carlo method to predict the antiferromagnetic topological insulator (AFMTI) phase, which is hosted by the van der Waals layered compound MnBi$_2$Te$_4$.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strong spin-orbit splitting on bi surfaces.
Yuri M. Koroteev,Yuri M. Koroteev,Gustav Bihlmayer,J. E. Gayone,J. E. Gayone,Eugene V. Chulkov,Eugene V. Chulkov,Stefan Blügel,Pedro M. Echenique,Pedro M. Echenique,Ph. Hofmann +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the spin-orbit interaction leads to a strong splitting of the surface-state bands on low-index surfaces of Bi. The dispersion of the states and the corresponding Fermi surfaces are profoundly modified in the whole surface Brillouin zone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unique Thickness-Dependent Properties of the van der Waals Interlayer Antiferromagnet MnBi2Te4 Films
Mikhail M. Otrokov,Igor P. Rusinov,Igor P. Rusinov,María Blanco-Rey,María Blanco-Rey,Michael J. Hoffmann,A. Yu. Vyazovskaya,A. Yu. Vyazovskaya,Sergey V. Eremeev,Sergey V. Eremeev,Sergey V. Eremeev,Arthur Ernst,Arthur Ernst,Pedro M. Echenique,Pedro M. Echenique,Pedro M. Echenique,Andrés Arnau,Andrés Arnau,Andrés Arnau,Evgueni V. Chulkov +19 more
TL;DR: MnBi_{2}Te_{4} is the first stoichiometric material predicted to realize the zero plateau quantum anomalous Hall state intrinsically and has been theoretically shown to host the exotic axion insulator phase.
