Self-tuning of conflicting oscillatory modes: A case study

TL;DR: An analysis of a single parameter self-tuning scheme for a high order system is presented and applied to a typical power system stabilizer, as a representative of systems in which stabilization of some modes decreases the damping of other modes.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Stability margins of cheap controls

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that stability margins provided by optimal control laws increase when the penalty on the control in the quadratic cost functional is allowed to approach zero, which implies increased robustness with respect to input strictly passive dynamic uncertainties.

On the Stability and Robustness of an Adaptive Nonlinear Control Scheme

TL;DR: It is shown that under some additional conditions, the closed-loop adaptive system has an exponentially stable parameter-dependent equilibrium, and is robust not only to small bounded disturbances and unmodeled dynamics, but also to slow time variations of the unknown parameters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Disturbance Cancellation and Drift of Adaptive Gains

TL;DR: In this article, the adaptive laws adjust the controller gains to create zeros which cancel the disturbance poles, and the controller gain will drift to infinity in order to create a feedback loop with infinite gain.
