Journal ArticleDOI
Pharmacotherapy for neuropathic pain in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Nanna B. Finnerup,Nadine Attal,Simon Haroutounian,Ewan D McNicol,Ralf Baron,Robert H. Dworkin,Ian Gilron,Maija Haanpää,Per Hansson,Per Hansson,Troels S. Jensen,Troels S. Jensen,Peter R. Kamerman,Karen Lund,Andrew Moore,Srinivasa N. Raja,Andrew S.C. Rice,Andrew S.C. Rice,Michael C. Rowbotham,Emily S. Sena,Emily S. Sena,Philip J. Siddall,Philip J. Siddall,Blair H. Smith,Mark S. Wallace +24 more
TL;DR: The results support a revision of the NeuPSIG recommendations for the pharmacotherapy of neuropathic pain and allow a strong recommendation for use and proposal as first-line treatment in neuropathicPain for tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors, pregabalin, and gabapentin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuropathic pain: An updated grading system for research and clinical practice
Nanna B. Finnerup,Simon Haroutounian,Peter R. Kamerman,Ralf Baron,David L.H. Bennett,Didier Bouhassira,Giorgio Cruccu,Roy Freeman,Per Hansson,Turo Nurmikko,Srinivasa N. Raja,Andrew S.C. Rice,Andrew S.C. Rice,Jordi Serra,Blair H. Smith,Rolf-Detlef Treede,Troels S. Jensen +16 more
TL;DR: A revised grading system of possible, probable, and definite neuropathic pain from 2008 is presented with an adjusted order, better reflecting clinical practice, improvements in the specifications, and a word of caution that even the “definite” level of neuropathicPain does not always indicate causality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adaptive heterothermy and selective brain cooling in arid-zone mammals.
Duncan Mitchell,Shane K. Maloney,Shane K. Maloney,Claus Jessen,Helen P. Laburn,Peter R. Kamerman,Graham Mitchell,Andrea Fuller +7 more
TL;DR: None of the rete ungulates seems to employ selective brain cooling to prevent the brain overheating during exertional hyperthermia, so it is believed that they use it at rest, under moderate heat load, in order to switch body heat loss from evaporative to non-evaporative routes.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV neuropathy risk factors and symptom characterization in stavudine-exposed South Africans.
TL;DR: In this paper, the prevalence of symptomatic HIV-associated sensory neuropathy (HIV-SN) was found to be associated with increasing age and height, factors that could be measured at no added cost prior to stavudine prescription.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathogenesis of HIV-associated sensory neuropathy: evidence from in vivo and in vitro experimental models.
Peter R. Kamerman,Philippa J Moss,Juliane Weber,Victoria C.J. Wallace,Andrew S.C. Rice,Wenlong Huang +5 more
TL;DR: The models that have been developed to study the pathogenesis of HIV‐SN, and hypernociception associated with the neuropathy, are reasonable models and have provided useful insights into the pathogenic of HIV •associated sensory neuropathy.
