Carroll,Tanuja Chitnis,Jérôme De Seze,Kazuo Fujihara,Benjamin Greenberg,Anu Jacob,Sven Jarius,Marco Aurélio Lana-Peixoto,Michael J. Levy,Jack H. Simon,Silvia Tenembaum,Anthony Traboulsee,Patrick Waters,Kay E. Wellik,Brian G. Weinshenker +18 more
TL;DR: The International Panel for NMO Diagnosis (IPND) was convened to develop revised diagnostic criteria using systematic literature reviews and electronic surveys to facilitate consensus and achieved consensus on pediatric NMOSD diagnosis and the concepts of monophasicNMOSD and opticospinal MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology of aquaporin-4 autoimmunity and neuromyelitis optica spectrum.
Eoin P. Flanagan,Philippe Cabre,Brian G. Weinshenker,Jennifer L. St. Sauver,Debra J. Jacobson,Masoud Majed,Vanda A. Lennon,Claudia F. Lucchinetti,Andrew McKeon,Marcelo Matiello,Nilifur Kale,Dean M. Wingerchuk,Jay Mandrekar,Jessica Sagen,James P. Fryer,Angala Borders Robinson,Sean J. Pittock +16 more
TL;DR: This work sought to compare NMO/NMOSD seroepidemiology across 2 ethnically divergent populations and found no difference in seroprevalence between the two populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short delay to initiate plasma exchange is the strongest predictor of outcome in severe attacks of NMO spectrum disorders
Mickael Bonnan,Rudy Valentino,Stéphane Debeugny,Harold Merle,Jean-Louis Fergé,Hossein Mehdaoui,Philippe Cabre +6 more
TL;DR: An improved clinical benefit of early initiation of PLEX during severe attacks of NMO-SD is confirmed, suggesting that perceiving PleX as a rescue therapy only after steroid failure could be deleterious.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma exchange in severe spinal attacks associated with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.
TL;DR: PE appears to be a safe add-on therapy that may be employed early in severe spinal attacks in the NMO spectrum disorders in order to maximize improvement rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
MS and neuromyelitis optica in Martinique (French West Indies)
Philippe Cabre,Olivier Heinzlef,H. Merle,G.G. Buisson,O. Bera,Rémi Bellance,J.-C. Vernant,Didier Smadja +7 more
TL;DR: The island of Martinique appears to have a low to medium prevalence of MS, which was almost unknown in FAC in Martinique until the late 1970s and may be explained by improved recognition of patients, increased availability of MRI for diagnosis, increased disease awareness among physicians, increased survival of MS patients, or an actual increase in disease frequency.
