Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of prohibitin as a Chikungunya virus receptor protein
Phitchayapak Wintachai,Nitwara Wikan,Atichat Kuadkitkan,Thitigun Jaimipuk,Sukathida Ubol,Rojjanaporn Pulmanausahakul,Prasert Auewarakul,Watchara Kasinrerk,Wen Yu Weng,Mingkwan Panyasrivanit,Atchara Paemanee,Suthathip Kittisenachai,Sittiruk Roytrakul,Duncan R. Smith +13 more
TL;DR: PHB is the first identified CHIKV receptor protein, and there is evidence that PHB may play a role in the internalization of multiple viruses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activity of andrographolide against chikungunya virus infection
Phitchayapak Wintachai,Parveen Kaur,Regina Ching Hua Lee,Suwipa Ramphan,Atichat Kuadkitkan,Nitwara Wikan,Sukathida Ubol,Sittiruk Roytrakul,Justin Jang Hann Chu,Duncan R. Smith +9 more
TL;DR: Andrographolide showed good inhibition of CHIKV infection and reduced virus production by approximately 3log10 with a 50% effective concentration (EC50) of 77 μM without cytotoxicity, showing the potential to be developed further as an anti-CHIKV therapeutic agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Melatonin stimulates the nonamyloidogenic processing of βAPP through the positive transcriptional regulation of ADAM10 and ADAM17
Mayuri Shukla,Htut Htut Htoo,Phitchayapak Wintachai,Jean-François Hernandez,Claire M. Dubois,Rolf Postina,Huaxi Xu,Huaxi Xu,Frédéric Checler,Duncan R. Smith,Piyarat Govitrapong,Bruno Vincent,Bruno Vincent +12 more
TL;DR: The results provide the first demonstration that melatonin upregulates the nonamyloidogenic ADAM10 and ADAM17 proteases through melatonin receptor activation, ERK phosphorylation and the transactivation of some specific regions of their promoters and further underline the preventive rather than curative nature of melatonin regarding AD treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of putative Japanese encephalitis virus receptor molecules on microglial cells
Thananya Thongtan,Nitwara Wikan,Phitchayapak Wintachai,Chutima Rattanarungsan,Chantragan Srisomsap,Poonlarp Cheepsunthorn,Duncan R. Smith +6 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that multiple receptor proteins may mediate the entry of JEV to microglial cells, with CD4 playing a major role.
Journal ArticleDOI
Involvement of ATP synthase β subunit in chikungunya virus entry into insect cells
Chanida Fongsaran,Krit Jirakanwisal,Atichat Kuadkitkan,Nitwara Wikan,Phitchayapak Wintachai,Chutima Thepparit,Sukathida Ubol,Narumon Phaonakrop,Sittiruk Roytrakul,Duncan R. Smith +9 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that ATPSβ is a CHIKV-binding protein capable of mediating the entry of chikungunya virus into insect cells.
