Molecular characterization of pyrethroid knockdown resistance (kdr) in the major malaria vector Anopheles gambiae s. s.
David Martínez-Torres,Fabrice Chandre,Martin S. Williamson,Frédéric Darriet,Jean Baptiste Berge,Alan L. Devonshire,Pierre Guillet,Nicole Pasteur,David Pauron +8 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates that a modification of the voltage‐gated sodium channel protein recently shown to be associated with mutations of the para‐type sodium channel gene is present in certain strains of pyrethroid resistant A. gambiae, and describes a PCR‐based diagnostic test allowing its detection in the genome of single mosquitoes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of agricultural use of insecticides in resistance to pyrethroids in Anopheles gambiae s.l. in Burkina Faso.
Abdoulaye Diabaté,Thierry Baldet,Fabrice Chandre,Martin Akoobeto,T Robert Guiguemde,Frédéric Darriet,Cécile Brengues,Pierre Guillet,Janet Hemingway,Graham J. Small,Jean Marc Hougard +10 more
TL;DR: Pyrethroid resistance in west African An.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pyrethroid and DDT cross-resistance in Aedes aegypti is correlated with novel mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel gene.
Cécile Brengues,Nicola J. Hawkes,Fabrice Chandre,L. McCarroll,Stéphane Duchon,Pierre Guillet,Sylvie Manguin,John C. Morgan,Janet Hemingway +8 more
TL;DR: Four novel mutations were identified in dengue vector mosquito Aedes aegypti (L.) and direct neurophysiological assays on individual larvae from three strains demonstrated reduced nerve sensitivity to permethrin or lambda cyhalothrin inhibition compared to the susceptible strains.
Journal Article
Status of pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles gambiae sensu lato
TL;DR: The present study confirms the presence of pyrethroid resistance among Anopheles gambiae s.l mosquitos in Côte d'Ivoire and reports the observation of such resistance in two other countries in West Africa (Benin and Burkina Faso).
Journal ArticleDOI
Alternative insecticides: an urgent need
Morteza Zaim,Pierre Guillet +1 more
TL;DR: Mobilizing public resources and establishment of partnerships to support research and development of public health insecticides is crucial in the post-DDT and post-pyrethroid era.
