TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the views of employees working in Turkish sport organizations on the qualities of sport managers, their preference for female or male sport managers and their attitudes toward female managers.
Abstract: Research question: This study examines the views of employees working in Turkish sport organizations on the qualities of sport managers, their preference for female or male sport managers, and their attitudes toward female managers.Research methods: A quantitative research design based on the data of 244 female employees and 492 male employees was chosen. Results and findings: The results of the Women as Managers Scale indicated that gender, education, marital status, the preference for female or male sport managers, and the type of organization significantly affected gender role stereotypes and attitudes toward women’s career advancement. In addition, the under-representation of women can be partly explained by dominant meanings, which are framed in the sport and sport experience given to a sport manager.Implications: In line with role congruity theory, management in Turkish sport organizations is stereotyped as a masculine domain requiring agentic characteristics and sport experience is more strongly att...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the literature on higher education in sport management published in international journals from 1979 to 2014 and found that sport management education should be developed to enhance selfemployability through new pedagogical approaches that allow the improvement of critical thinking by the inclusion of internship, new technologies, and e-learning.
Abstract: This study analyzed the literature on Higher Education in sport management published in international journals from 1979 to 2014. A systematic review was carried out, and a total of 98 articles were obtained. The authors, the most cited articles, the publication journals, and the topics and research trends were then identified. Through an inductive content analysis, eight research themes were distinguished: Curriculum and Knowledge; Internship, Experiential Learning, and Service Learning; Employability; Pedagogy; Gender; Technology and e-Learning; Globalization and Internationalization; and Accreditation Process and Quality. The findings suggest that sport management education should be developed to enhance self-employability through new pedagogical approaches that allow the improvement of critical thinking by the inclusion of internship, new technologies, and e-learning. Furthermore, the current social and economic dynamics represents an opportunity to increase the quality of programs and to orient them toward a globalization and internationalization approach.

TL;DR: Qualitative evidence synthesis followed the framework synthesis approach to extract, analyse and synthesize data on factors influencing obesogenic behaviours in adolescent girls and women of reproductive age in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs).
Abstract: This systematic review synthesized the qualitative evidence on factors influencing obesogenic behaviours in adolescent girls and women of reproductive age in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This qualitative evidence synthesis followed the framework synthesis approach to extract, analyse and synthesize data. Electronic searches were conducted in the Web of Science, SCOPUS, CABI Abstracts, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Google Scholar. Studies were eligible if they were conducted in LMICs, of qualitative nature, and reported obesogenic behaviours of female adolescents (10-19 years of age) or women of reproductive age (15-49 years of age). The review resulted in 71 included studies from 27 different countries. Thirty-two studies focused on dietary behaviours, 17 on physical activity and 22 on both behaviours. Gender norms and failures to recognize the importance of healthy behaviours across the life cycle were important factors. The abundance and promotion of affordable but unhealthy food, food safety concerns, taste preferences and social desirability of foods drive consumption of unhealthy foods. Busy lives and limited exercise spaces keep girls and women from being physically active. Obesogenic behaviours of adolescent girls and women of reproductive age are influenced by factors at individual, social, physical and environmental levels and require diverse solutions to address these factors in LMICs.

TL;DR: This article examined how leadership in non-western sporting contexts has been represented in the mainstream sport management literature and pointed out the limitations of current mainstream leadership studies in explaining phenomena in nonwestern sport contexts and in fostering a comprehensive, multilayered understanding of globalization of sport.
Abstract: This study examines how leadership in non-Western sporting contexts has been represented in the mainstream (Western) sport management literature. A postcolonialism-informed critical discourse analysis, focusing on the locus of enunciation of each selected representation, reveals the limitations of current mainstream leadership studies in explaining phenomena in non-Western sport contexts and in fostering a comprehensive, multilayered understanding of globalization of sport. Thus, it is imperative to consider what leadership in sport means in local contexts outside the West and having multiple narratives of sport and sport leadership is therefore necessary. To illustrate this, we introduce a discussion of Indigenous leadership perspectives based on studies conducted in Indigenous communities, present ways in which Indigenous Peoples understand leadership differently from the conventional definitions, and suggest some opportunities for research. We conclude with examples in the literature where authors have...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate perceptions of sport and exercise career opportunities and barriers among females at different career stages, and conclude that efforts are still required to reduce gender inequality in sport-related career and educational settings.
Abstract: The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate perceptions of sport and exercise career opportunities and barriers among females at different career stages. Focus groups, consisting of high school students (n = 20), university students (n = 8) and graduates (n = 7) studying/working in sport and exercise, were formulated. All groups acknowledged gender discrimination within sport-related employment, with university students seeming to be more apprehensive of how discrimination might be career-limiting. Self-confidence and self-belief were deemed important for success, but external barriers, and tokenistic gender-equality strategies limited progression. In conclusion, efforts are still required to reduce gender inequality in sport-related career and educational settings.
