Abstract: Exclusive.(770) 0 photoproduction is measured for the first time in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at v s NN = 5.02 TeV with the CMS detector. The cross section s(.p..(770) 0 p) is 11.0 +/- 1.4 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) mu b at W. p = 92.6GeV for photon-proton centre-of-mass energies W. p between 29 and 213 GeV. The differential cross section ds/d| t| is measured in the interval 0.025 < | t| < 1GeV 2 as a function of W. p, where t is the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The results are compared with previous measurements and theoretical predictions. The measured cross section s(.p..(770) 0 p) has a power-law dependence on the photon-proton centre-of-mass, consistent with electron-proton collision measurements performed at HERA. The W. p dependence of the exponential slope of the differential cross section ds/d| t| is also measured.

Abstract: We report two novel determinations of |V{sub ub}| with reduced model dependence, based on measurements of the mass distribution of the hadronic system in semileptonic B decays. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson from {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} (B{bar B}) events. In one approach, we combine the inclusive {bar B} {yields} X{sub u}{ell}{bar {nu}} rate with a measurement of the inclusive B {yields} X{sub s}{gamma} photon energy spectrum. We obtain |V{sub ub}| = (4.43 {+-} 0.38{sub stat} {+-} 0.25{sub syst} {+-} 0.29{sub theo}) x 10{sup -3}. In another approach we measure the total {bar B} {yields} X{sub u} {ell}{bar {nu}} rate over the full phase space and find |V{sub ub}| = (3.84 {+-} 0.70{sub stat} {+-} 0.30{sub syst} {+-} 0.10{sub theo}) x 10{sup -3}.

Abstract: With the full BABAR data sample of 465×106 BB pairs, we observe the decays B±→φK1(1270)± and B±→φK2 *(1430)±. We measure the branching fractions (6.1±1.6±1. 1)×10-6 and (8.4±1.8±1.0)×10-6 and the fractions of longitudinal polarization 0.46-0.13-0.07+0.12+0.06 and 0.80-0.10+0.09±0. 03, respectively. We also report on the B±→φK0*(1430) ± decay branching fraction of (7.0±1.3±0.9)×10-6 and several parameters sensitive to CP violation and interference in the above three decays. Upper limits are placed on the B± decay rates to final states with φ and K1(1400)±, K*(1410)±, K2(1770)±, or K2(1820)±. Understanding the observed polarization pattern requires amplitude contributions from an uncertain source. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: A search for physics beyond the standard model in events with one or more high-momentum Higgs bosons, H, decaying to pairs of b quarks in association with missing transverse momentum is presented. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1, were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at the center-of-mass energy ffiffi s p ¼ 13 TeV. The analysis utilizes a new b quark tagging technique based on jet substructure to identify jets from H → bb¯. Events are categorized by the multiplicity of H-tagged jets, jet mass, and the missing transverse momentum. No significant deviation from standard model expectations is observed. In the context of supersymmetry (SUSY), limits on the cross sections of pair-produced gluinos are set, assuming that gluinos decay to quark pairs, H (or Z), and the lightest SUSY particle, LSP, through an intermediate next-to-lightest SUSY particle, NLSP. With large mass splitting between the NLSP and LSP, and 100% NLSP branching fraction to H, the lower limit on the gluino mass is found to be 2010 GeV.

Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones.
