TL;DR: In this paper, a search for the decays B-B- -> K+pi(-)pi(+) and B- B--> K-K-pi(+)) was performed using the BABAR detector.
Abstract: We report a search for the decays B- -> K+pi(-)pi(-) and B- -> K-K-pi(+), which are highly suppressed in the standard model. Using a sample of (467 +/- 5) x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector, we do not see any evidence of these decays and determine 90% confidence level upper limits of B(B- -> K+pi(-)pi(-)) and K-K-pi(+)) and < 1.6 x 10(-7) on the corresponding branching fractions, including systematic uncertainties.

TL;DR: A study of the decays B+-->rho+gamma, B0 -->rho0gamma , and B0-->omegagamma is presented, based on data containing 347 x 10(6) BB[over ] events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory.
Abstract: The authors present a study of the decays B{sup +} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{gamma}, B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}{gamma}, and B{sup 0} {yields} {omega}{gamma}. The analysis is based on data containing 347 million B{bar B} events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory. They measure the branching fractions {Beta}(B{sup +} {yields} {rho}{sup +}{gamma}) = (1.10{sub -0.33}{sup +0.37} {+-} 0.09) x 10{sup -6} and {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}{gamma}) = (0.79{sub -0.20}{sup +0.22} {+-} 0.06) x 10{sup -6}, and set a 90% C.L. upper limit {Beta}(B{sup 0} {yields} {omega}{gamma}) < 0.78 x 10{sup -6}. They also measure the isospin-averaged branching fraction {Beta}[B {yields} ({rho}/{omega}){gamma}] = (1.25{sub -0.24}{sup +0.25} {+-} 0.09) x 10{sup -6}, from which they determine |V{sub td}/V{sub ts}| = 0.200{sub -0.020}{sup +0.021} {+-} 0.015, where the first uncertainty is experimental and the second is theoretical.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the results of a search for the rare baryonic decays in a data set of $31.7 million events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB collider.
Abstract: We report the results of a search for the rare baryonic decays ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p\overline{p},$ $\ensuremath{\Lambda}\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}},$ and ${B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}.$ The analysis is based on a data set of $31.7\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}B\overline{B}$ events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. No statistically significant signals are found, and we set branching fraction upper limits $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p\overline{p})l1.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6},$ $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Lambda}\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}})l1.0\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6},$ and $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p\overline{\ensuremath{\Lambda}})l2.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$ at the 90% confidence level.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the time-dependent Dalitz plot of D-->K, where h;{0} is a pi; h;0 is a omega meson and D;{*}-->Dpi;0, using the BABAR detector.
Abstract: We study the time-dependent Dalitz plot of D-->K_{S};{0}pi;{+}pi;{-} in B;{0}-->D;{(*)}h;{0} decays, where h;{0} is a pi;{0}, eta, eta;{'}, or omega meson and D;{*}-->Dpi;{0}, using a data sample of 383x10;{6} Upsilon(4S)-->BB[over ] decays collected with the BABAR detector. We determine cos2beta=0.42+/-0.49+/-0.09+/-0.13, sin2beta=0.29+/-0.34+/-0.03+/-0.05, and |lambda|=1.01+/-0.08+/-0.02, where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third, where given, is the Dalitz model uncertainty. Assuming the world average value for sin2beta and |lambda|=1, cos2beta>0 is preferred over cos2beta<0 at 86% confidence level.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

TL;DR: In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones.
