Application of natural dyes on textiles

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have reported the studies available on the characterization and chemical/biochemical analysis of natural dyes; extraction of colorants from different natural sources; effects of different mordants and mordanting methods; conventional and non-conventional methods of natural dyeing; physico-chemical studies on dyeing process variables and dyeing kinetics; development of newer shades and analysis of colour parameters for textiles dyed with natural dye.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of single and mixtures of red sandalwood and other natural dyes for dyeing of jute fabric: studies on colour parameters/colour fastness and compatibility

TL;DR: In this article, single and binary mixtures of aqueous extracts of red sandalwood (RSW) with other natural dyes like manjistha (MJ), jackfruit wood (JFW), marigold (MG), sappan wood (SW) and babool (BL) in different proportions are applied on bleached jute fabric for its dyeing after double pre-mordanted with myrobolan and aluminium sulphate applied in sequence under optimised conditions of mordanting with effects of use of different proportions of binary mixture of selective natural

Dyeing of jute and cotton fabrics using Jackfruit wood extract: Part I — Effects of mordanting and dyeing process variables on colour yield and colour fastness properties

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of dyeing process variables on surface colour strength was investigated for both single and double pre-mordant systems and the results indicated that the 90 min dyeing time, 70-90°C dyeing temperature, 11.0 pH, 1:30 material-to-liquor ratio, 20-30% mordants concentration, 30-40% dye concentration, and 15 gpl common salt are the optimum values with minor differences among the different fibremordant system studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Studies on Color Interaction Parameters and Color Fastness Properties for Dyeing of Cotton Fabrics with Binary Mixtures of Jackfruit Wood and other Natural Dyes

TL;DR: In this article, a pre-mordant with myrobolan and then with aluminum sulfate applied in sequence was applied in order to obtain a variety of compound colors with varying color strength and related color parameters.

Dyeing of jute with binary mixtures of jackfruit wood and other natural dyes — Study on colour performance and dye compatibility

TL;DR: In this article, a simple method of assessing relative compatibility rating of pairs of dyes has been proposed, where a new index called colour difference index has been postulated and the compatibility ratings determined.
