TL;DR: A robust image watermarking scheme in which a binary image is embedded in the singular values of selected DWT blocks in the horizontal and vertical sub-bands of a 1-level decomposition of a gray-scale image is proposed.
Abstract: A robust image watermarking scheme in which a binary image is embedded in the singular values of selected DWT blocks in the horizontal and vertical sub-bands of a 1-level decomposition of a gray-scale image is proposed. The embedded blocks are selected by a secret key to enhance imperceptibility. A watermarked image that is perceptually indistinguishable from the original is obtained. The watermarking retrieval is non-blind and requires the use of parameters extracted during the watermarking process. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested by comparing the retrieved watermark to the original watermark. Computer simulation results show that the algorithm is robust to common signal processing attacks such as Gaussian noise, cropping, and low pass filtering. It is also resistant to JPEG compression.

TL;DR: A new singular value decomposition (SVD) and discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) based technique is proposed for hiding watermark in full frequency band of color images (DSFW) and it is observed that the quality of the watermark is maintained with the value of 36dB.
Abstract: Due to the advancement in Computer technology and readily available tools, it is very easy for the unknown users to produce illegal copies of multimedia data which are floating across the Internet. In order to protect those multimedia data on the Internet many techniques are available including various encryption techniques, steganography techniques, watermarking techniques and information hiding techniques. Digital watermarking is a technique in which a piece of digital information is embedded into an image and extracted later for ownership verification. Secret digital data can be embedded either in spatial domain or in frequency domain of the cover data. In this paper, a new singular value decomposition (SVD) and discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) based technique is proposed for hiding watermark in full frequency band of color images (DSFW). The quality of the watermarked image and extracted watermark is measured using peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and normalized correlation (NC) respectively. It is observed that the quality of the watermarked image is maintained with the value of 36dB. Robustness of proposed algorithm is tested for various attacks including salt and pepper noise and Gaussian noise, cropping and JPEG compression.

TL;DR: The watermarking of images has been researched profoundly for its specialized and modern achievability in all media applications such as copyrights protection, medical reports, annotation and privacy control.
Abstract: Multimedia technology usages is increasing day by day and to provide authorized data and protecting the secret information from unauthorized use is highly difficult and involves a complex process. By using the watermarking technique, only authorized user can use the data. Digital watermarking is a widely used technology for the protection of digital data. Digital watermarking deals with the embedding of secret data into actual information. Digital watermarking techniques are classified into three major categories, and they were based on domain, type of document (text, image, music or video) and human perception. Performance of the watermarked images is analysed using Peak signal to noise ratio, mean square error and bit error rate. Watermarking of images has been researched profoundly for its specialized and modern achievability in all media applications such as copyrights protection, medical reports (MRI scan and X-ray), annotation and privacy control. This paper reviews the watermarking technique and its merits and demerits.

TL;DR: This article contribution provides essential and potential information for the researchers to design, develop and implement efficient robust and hybrid SVD-based image watermarking systems.
Abstract: These days, researchers have used many techniques in e-multimedia data for intellectual property protection. One of these important techniques is watermarking which is superior to Digital Signature because it does not rise overhead and it can prevent unauthorized users from misusing digital information. However, the number of attacks with aim of distorting watermark signal or disturbing watermarks detecting are exploding. Consequently, the watermark techniques have became more complicated, but still they are not fully robust against some geometric distortions. To overcome this issue and to be enough robust against the malicious attacks, and provide a high level of imperceptibility, the watermark schemes have discovered and developed the advantages by means of Singular-value decomposition. Therefore, in recent decades there has been a significant increasing in using of SVD domain in many new image watermarking schemes, which show high robustness and imperceptibility. This discussion of SVD in image watermarking schemes included: a concise overview on watermarking systems, a brief review on SVD properties in image processing and its weaknesses, the concept of SVD components, the main classification of different SVD based image-watermarking schemes; a brief summary of various secure SVD-based watermarking techniques and all major SVD coefficients modifying strategies are presented. In addition, potential issues and some existing solutions and guidelines are provided. Furthermore, the performance comparisons of the discussed techniques are presented in tabular format. This article contribution provides essential and potential information for the researchers to design, develop and implement efficient robust and hybrid SVD-based image watermarking systems.

TL;DR: In this article, the state-of-the-art in hybrid SVD-based image watermarking is analyzed and compared to highlight various security problems, open issues, and research gaps.
Abstract: Watermarking is an important technique for protecting sensitive e-multimedia data and intellectual property. Watermarking techniques are used for many applications such as ownership protection, which is a popular area of research as compared to others such as authentication and local temper localization. There are many image watermarking schemes that have been recently published based on the frequency domain as it can fulfill watermarking requirements such as high robustness and imperceptibility. Singular-value decomposition (SVD) is one of them and is used in many frequency transform-based image watermarking schemes due to its stability and mathematical simplicity. However, there are many schemes that lack robustness against malicious cyberattacks, whereby the watermarks are easy to detect and destroy. Consequently, the proposed watermarking schemes became more complicated and cannot resist various geometric and non-geometric attacks. Thus, there are many existing hybrid SVD-based image watermarking schemes found be insecure. As there is also a lack of in-depth reviews in this domain, the focus of this paper is the analysis of the state-of-the-art in hybrid SVD-based image watermarking. We perform efficiency comparisons to highlight various security problems, open issues, and research gaps. Based on our findings, we additionally provide some recommendations for the development of more robust schemes in the future. This paper provides essential information for researchers and practitioners alike to advance the field of image watermarking.
