TL;DR: Findings are consistent with the hypothesis that attenuation of diastolic BP decline during sleep is at least partly due to (incipient) damage to the parasympathetic nervous system, which, through a blunted heart rate decline, leads to a decreased decline of cardiac output during sleep.
