TL;DR: The tree fern Cyathea gigantea yielded hentriacontane, β-sitostenone, β -sitostanone, diploterol, sitosterol, hopan-29-ol, and oleanolic acid from the hexane soluble fraction of the plant.
Abstract: The tree fern Cyathea gigantea yielded hentriacontane, β-sitostenone, β-sitostanone, diploterol, sitosterol, hopan-29-ol, and oleanolic acid from the hexane soluble fraction of the plant. CDRI Communication No. 3961Compounds III and V belonging to hopane series of triterpenes are generally found in lower plants. Compound V is reported for the first time from family Cyatheaceae.

TL;DR: The present study furnishes an overview of the hydroxy or/and methoxy-substituted 9,10-dihydro/phenanthrene, methylated, prenylated and other monomeric derivatives, dimeric and trimeric phenanthrenes and their biological activities.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: It appears that synergism plays a role in antimicrobial activity of plant extracts and that the hope of isolating a single compound that can be used as a new agent to address antibiotic resistance has been frustrated.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The distribution and biosynthesis of iridoid glucosides in the Oleaceae is reviewed and five distinct biosynthetic pathways to iridoids have been identified in the family, deoxyloganic acid apparently being a common intermediate.
