The purpose of key management is to provide procedures for handling cryptographic keying material to be used by cryptographic mechanisms. Even though many key distribution protocols have been designed, little attention has been devoted to the question of how those protocols could be incorporated into the OSI architecture. The goal of this paper is to discuss various possibilities for the placement of key distribution protocols within OSI and to give several criteria for their assessment. Familiarity with general security aspects and with basic concepts of the OSI Reference Model is assumed.

Placement of cryptographic key distribution within OSI: design alternatives and assessment

Cryptographic techniques are used to secure confidential data from unauthorized access, but these techniques are very sensitive to noise. A single bit change in encrypted data may have catastrophic impact over the decrypted data. This paper addresses the problem of removing bit error in visual data which are encrypted using AES algorithm by block. In order to remove the noise, three statistical analyses are proposed which are based on Global variance, Mean local variance and Sum of squared derivative. These methods exploit local statistics of the visual data and confusion/diffusion properties of the encryption algorithm to correct the errors. Experimental results show that the proposed approaches can be used at the receiving end for the possible solution for error correction in visual data in encrypted domain.

Decryption of noisy encrypted images by statistical analysis

A method of providing data confidentiality service for secure data communication between two end users through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocols is presented. The system call functions of the socket compatibility interface and transport level interface libraries are used for connection establishment, data transfer, and connection release between two TCP/IP end users. Noise removing in encrypted color images by statistical analysis

The design issues related to the voice packet construction, encryption, transmission, decryption, and reconstruction of original speech signals for secure packet voice communication between source and destination end user systems in a packet switched wide area network are presented. A data encryption standard (DES) algorithm is used for encryption and decryption of voice packets and the public key cryptographic algorithm is used for session key distribution using a key distribution center. These issues may be considered for use in the design of a secure packet voice communication system in wide area networks. >
