Journal ArticleDOI
Use of vital capacity for cardiac failure risk estimation in persons with coronary disease and left ventricular hypertrophy
TL;DR: The simple FVC is an inexpensive and robust predictor of cardiac failure in persons predisposed by coronary disease or left ventricular hypertrophy and should help identify candidates for cardiac failure needing echocardiographic examination for ventricular dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nutritional Factors and Preservation of C-Peptide in Youth With Recently Diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes: SEARCH Nutrition Ancillary Study
Elizabeth J. Mayer-Davis,Dana Dabelea,Jamie L. Crandell,Tessa L. Crume,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Lawrence M. Dolan,Irena B. King,Jean M. Lawrence,Jill M. Norris,Catherine Pihoker +9 more
TL;DR: Increased intake of branched-chain amino acids and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids may support preservation of β-cell function and represents a new direction for research to improve prognosis for type 1 diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Aortic Diameters on Multidetector Computed Tomographic Scan Are Independent Predictors of Incident Adverse Cardiovascular Events: The Framingham Heart Study.
Saadia Qazi,Joseph M. Massaro,Michael L Chuang,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Udo Hoffmann,Christopher J. O'Donnell +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that adverse aortic remodeling, such as dilation, is associated with multiple cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors such as heart failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary prevention drug therapy: can it meet patients' requirements for reduced risk?
Hilary A. Llewellyn-Thomas,J. Michael Paterson,Judy A. Carter,Antoni Basinski,Martin G. Myers,Gordon D. Hardacre,Earl V. Dunn,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Philip A. Wolf,C. David Naylor +9 more
TL;DR: There may be a notable proportion of patients whose ReqRR is considerably greater than what is achievable, implying that decision aids may help individuals clarify preferences about accepting/refusing medication for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effectiveness of antihistamines in reducing the severity of runny nose and sneezing : A meta-analysis
Ralph B. D'Agostino,Michael Weintraub,Heidy K. Russell,Stepanians Mn,Louis R. Cantilena,James F. Graumlich,Sam Maldonado,Peter K. Honig,Charles Anello +8 more
