Speed is one of the basic reasons for vehicle accident. Many lives could have been saved if emergency service could get accident information and reach in time. Nowadays, GPS has become an integral part of a vehicle system. This paper proposes to utilize the capability of a GPS receiver to monitor speed of a vehicle and detect accident basing on monitored speed and send accident location to an Alert Service Center. The GPS will monitor speed of a vehicle and compare with the previous speed in every second through a Microcontroller Unit. Whenever the speed will be below the specified speed, it will assume that an accident has occurred. The system will then send the accident location acquired from the GPS along with the time and the speed by utilizing the GSM network. This will help to reach the rescue service in time and save the valuable human life.

Wireless device with an aggregate user interface for controlling other devices

Traffic congestion has been a serious problem in many urban areas around the world. Carpooling is one of the most effective solutions to traffic congestion. It consists of increasing the occupancy rate of cars by reducing the empty seats in these vehicles effectively. In this paper, an advanced carpool system is described in detail and called the intelligent carpool system (ICS), which provides carpoolers the use of the carpool services via a smart handheld device anywhere and at any time. The carpool service agency in the ICS is integrated with the abundant geographical, traffic, and societal information and used to manage requests. For help in coordinating the ride matches via the carpool service agency, we apply the genetic algorithm to propose the genetic-based carpool route and matching algorithm (GCRMA) for this multiobjective optimization problem called the carpool service problem (CSP). The experimental section shows that the proposed GCRMA is compared with two single-point methods: the random-assignment hill climbing algorithm and the greedy-assignment hill climbing algorithm on real-world scenarios. Use of the GCRMA was proved to result in superior results involving the optimization objectives of CSP than other algorithms. Furthermore, our GCRMA operates with significantly a small amount of computational complexity to response the match results in the reasonable time, and the processing time is further reduced by the termination criteria of early stop.

A Genetic-Algorithm-Based Approach to Solve Carpool Service Problems in Cloud Computing

All people experience aging, and the related physical and health changes, including changes in memory and brain function. These changes may become debilitating leading to an increase in dependence as people get older. Many external aids and tools have been developed to allow older adults and elderly patients to continue to live normal and comfortable lives. This mini-review describes some of the recent studies on cognitive decline and motor control impairment with the goal of advancing non-invasive brain computer interface (BCI) technologies to improve health and wellness of older adults and elderly patients. First, we describe the state of the art in cognitive prosthetics for psychiatric diseases. Then, we describe the state of the art of possible assistive BCI applications for controlling an exoskeleton, a wheelchair and smart home for elderly people with motor control impairments. The basic age-related brain and body changes, the effects of age on cognitive and motor abilities, and several BCI paradigms with typical tasks and outcomes are thoroughly described. We also discuss likely future trends and technologies to assist healthy older adults and elderly patients using innovative BCI applications with minimal technical oversight.

Computationally implemented methods and systems that are designed for transmitting a request for one or more identities of a transportation vehicle unit for transporting a first end user; receiving the one or more identities of the transportation vehicle unit for transporting the first end user, the transportation vehicle unit currently en route to or is currently transporting a second end user and having been identified based, at least in part, on a determination that the transportation vehicle unit is able to accommodate transport of the first end user while transporting the second end user; and directing the identified transportation vehicle unit to rendezvous with the first end user in order to transport the first end user. Real-time carpooling coordinating systems and methods

In this paper, we suggest a method to intelligently detect an accident at any place and any time and report the same to the nearby ‘service provider’. The service provider arranges for the necessary help. Accident Detection and Reporting System (ADRS) which can be placed in any vehicle uses a sensor to detect the accident. The sensor output is monitored and processed by the PIC16F877A microcontroller. The microcontroller takes decision on the traffic accident based on the input from the sensors. The RF transmitter module which is interfaced with the microcontroller will transmit the accident information to the nearby Emergency Service Provider (ESP). This information is received by the RF receiver module at the ‘service provider’ control room in the locality. The RF transceiver module used has a range up to 100 meters under ideal conditions. The service provider can use this information to arrange for ambulance and also inform police and hospital. We used low cost RF modules, a microcontroller by Microchip, LCD module and an accelerometer. This system can be installed at accident prone areas to detect and report the same. MPLAB IDE and Proteus software are used to simulate part of the system. ADRS also implements an intelligent Accident Detection and Reporting Algorithm (ADRA) for the purpose.

Automated voice based home navigation system for the elderly and the physically challenged

In this paper we discuss about the Design of an Automated Wireless Carpooling System (AWCS), which can curtail the over usage of on road vehicles to a considerable amount. This system is designed for private vehicle owners who commute individually from the workplace to home. The system makes use of pre registration method, by which only identified people get into the carpool vehicles so that crime can be reduced. The Central Monitoring system (CMS) used here intelligently handles carpool requests and switches them efficiently. The user can acquire details of his/her travel by sending a SMS from their mobile phone. Waiting centers are allocated at each part of the city and the users can enter the carpooled vehicles only from these waiting centers. A person is assigned at each waiting center to check the identity of the people entering. Thus the proposed AWCS can be implemented in a city efficiently.

Automated Wireless Carpooling System for an eco-friendly travel

Various research studies conducted all around the world reveal that 75% of people with debilitating physical disabilities and elderly people experience significant difficulties for their day to day locomotion. Although there are existing solutions to overcome this problem, none of them served to be customizable, economical and user friendly all at the same time. Therefore, one of the best options that could be useful for these affected class of people is a gesture-based interaction with their environment, in particular their wheelchairs. The proposed system named as 'Gest-BOT', uses a small camera mounted very close to the user's hand, which tracks the small movements of their fingers to understand the direction of movement of the wheelchair. A gesture recognition system which identifies the gesture is then interfaced to the wheelchair control system in order move it to the desired location. Gest-BOT is effortless to use, customizable, economical, highly convenient and non-intrusive. The hardware implementation of Gest-BOT consists of a wheelchair, an Arduino board based ATmega microcontroller and an Intel Atom EBC-352 processor, which uses MATLAB® executables for gesture image processing. We have also calculated the response of the system under various conditions which is detailed in the paper.
