TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the response of the Pakistani curriculum to the Covid-19 outbreak and suggested a complete revamping of the curriculum and strengthening of teachers' capabilities, and also suggested curricular material be updated to make it context specific, responsive to the needs of learners, and supportive of independent learning.
Abstract: The article investigates the response of the Pakistani curriculum to the Covid-19 outbreak. It also looks into the development of a curriculum that addresses the specificities of students' situations, while reminding them of global connectedness. The article is based on semi-structured interviews with 10 curriculum experts, 20 principals, and 35 teachers, as well as content analysis of the 2018 National Curriculum Framework of Pakistan. Its findings reveal participants' disappointment with the top-down, predetermined nature of the curriculum, which makes it inadequate for situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic. The curriculum was perceived as being highly rigid, with little room for alternative modalities. Participants believed the curriculum could not support children's learning in normal times, much less during a pandemic. Therefore, this article suggests a complete revamping of the curriculum and strengthening of teachers' capabilities. It also suggests curricular material be updated to make it context specific, responsive to the needs of learners, and supportive of independent learning.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated Logical/ Mathematical and Spatial/ Visual Intelligence of male and female teachers in secondary school and its influence on their teaching pedagogies in the subject of science and mathematics.
Abstract: Purpose: This study investigated Logical/ Mathematical and Spatial/ Visual Intelligence of male and female teachers in secondary school and its influence on their teaching pedagogies in the subject of science and mathematics. Methodology: Through a Likert scale questionnaire, data were collected from 252 secondary male and female schoolteachers from both rural and urban areas of district Peshawar. For data analysis, two-way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation was used. Result found a significant gender difference in visual intelligence where females were found with high level as compared to male and the influence of professional qualification was also noticed in visual intelligence. Results: Therefore, the study suggested that curriculum developer and policymakers need to focus on the intellectual development of teachers, to enhance their instructional abilities and professional expansion. Implications/Applications: Besides, results showed a significant positive correlation between Logical/ Mathematical and Spatial/ Visual intelligence with their teaching pedagogies. The findings shed light that teachers’ intelligence has a foretelling effect on their pedagogies which ultimately affect students’ academic performance.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examined the impact of employee leadership styles on work engagement and the mitigating role of trust in leaders, and found that a positive leadership style can promote work engagement.
Abstract: A positive leadership style can promote work engagement. Using social exchange theory, this study examines the impact of employee leadership styles on work engagement. In addition, the link also considered the mitigating role of trust in leaders. Preliminary data were collected from the educational and non-educational staff of the Business Management Sciences and Education Department at different universities. We collected responses from 242 employees from selected universities using the purposive sampling technique. We tested the proposed hypothesis using linear regression. Research has shown that there is a positive link between employee leadership and work engagement. When trust in leaders as facilitators was introduced, the relationship between leadership and work engagement was relaxed to increase trust in leaders. Practical and theoretical contributions to the study were provided with recommendations for further study.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored barriers that Pakistani public universities (PPUs) face in embedding sustainability at their campuses and offered potential opportunities to take initiatives to minimize barriers and move towards a sustainable future.
Abstract: Purpose Sustainability has globally become a mantra to address complex and unprecedented survival, social, political and peace issues. Higher education institutions bear responsibility to address them. This paper aims to explore barriers that Pakistani public universities (PPUs) face in embedding sustainability at their campuses. This paper also offers potential opportunities to take initiatives to minimize barriers and move towards a sustainable future. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on case study approach, and data were gathered through interviews and documents. Interviews with 11 academic administrators were conducted to gain deeper understanding on issues of governance and its influence on sustainability. Data were analysed using thematic analysis that created thematic map/model. Findings Key findings include, firstly, that majority of participants think poor governance is the biggest issue in demoting sustainability. This barrier causes an array of interconnected barriers. Secondly, participants strongly associate unsustainability with lack of institutional change and training. Finally, lack of resources was the most frequently articulated barrier. Findings provided a rationale to propose suggestions to promote sustainability. Originality/value Developed countries are leaders in promoting sustainability, whereas developing countries are laggards. Pakistan, a developing country, does not have substantial research to reveal the barriers PPUs are facing to promote sustainability. This paper is an attempt to address research gap in identifying barriers to sustainability.
