Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular cloning of a phospholipid-hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase gene from the tick, Boophilus microplus (Acari: Ixodidae).

TL;DR: Phospholipid-hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) enzymes are associated with cellular protection by the role they play in reducing hydroperoxides of phospholipids, thereby preventing membrane lipoperoxidation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theileria buffeli infection of a Michigan cow confirmed by small subunit ribosomal RNA gene analysis

TL;DR: An 8-year-old cow in Michigan presented with hemoglobinuria and a packed cell volume of 9.3%, and the parasite was confirmed to be T. buffeli by SSU rRNA gene sequence analysis (SSU r RNA sequence, Type A).
Journal ArticleDOI

Bovine anaplasmosis prevalence in northern Veracruz state, Mexico

TL;DR: Results of CFt suggested that presence of antibody increases with age up to 18 to 36 months, decreasing thereafter, and presence of the rickettsia seems to follow the same early pattern but with a new increase in animals 36 months or older.
Journal ArticleDOI

Perturbation of tyraminergic/octopaminergic function inhibits oviposition in the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus

TL;DR: Results suggest that although there are alpha adrenergic-like receptors in the tick, they do not behave in a manner completely analogous to their vertebrate counterparts, and tyramine appears to be more potent than octopamine.
Journal ArticleDOI

In vitro generation of organophosphate resistant boophilus microplus (Acari: Ixodidae) cell lines.

TL;DR: Three organophosphate resistant Boophilus microplus Canestrini cell lines were generated by exposing B. microplus VIII-SCC cell line to incrementally increased toxic concentrations of the acaricide coumaphos, finding that resistance was evidenced by LC50 values elevated over those of control cells.
