Embodiments of the disclosure are directed to a persistent enrollment of a device in a management system. Upon detection of a triggering event, detection of whether an activator application is installed is performed. Then, detection of whether an agent application is installed also performed. The agent application can then complete an enrollment of the device with a management system. Certain components of such a process can be bundled with the device operating system or as a system application.

Extended configuration space (e.g., such as PCIe Extended Config Space) of a hot-pluggable device may be utilized to store firmware update version information such as firmware version details, which is used in the OS space to update the ESRT table, and the system OS may read and apply the updated firmware version information and apply the firmware update immediately without additional OS reboots.

The one or more executable rules may adjust the monitoring parameters of the monitoring system with respect to the pool of data storage appliances. The method may further include executing the one or more executable rules such that the monitoring parameters of the monitoring system are adjusted.

An Information Handling System (IHS) has persistent memory device(s) coupled to a processor. Each memory device includes a first firmware image, version identifying information associated with the first firmware image, and device type identifying information. A firmware interface suite coupled to the processor has a firmware interface that is executed by the processor. The processor responds to identifying a trigger condition for automatic intra-system firmware update of a persistent memory device. The processor accesses the version identifying information and the device type identifying information for a first memory device containing the first firmware image of the persistent memory device(s). The processor associates the device type identifying information with device type information for a second memory device. In response to the first firmware image being different from the second firmware image, the processor selectively replaces the first firmware image on the first memory device with the second firmware image.

Automated intra-system persistent memory updates

Systems and methods are provided that may be implemented to deliver firmware for pre-boot updates of targeted information handling system device/devices using custom update capsules (e.g., such as custom unified extensible firmware interface capsules) and a separately-stored firmware update package that is remotely or locally stored. The custom update capsules may contain instruction payload information that may be used to determine location and desired components of the separately-stored firmware update package, and that also may be used to determine whether existing driver/drivers are to be retained in a firmware module in system memory or to be unloaded and replaced with a new (e.g., upgraded or downgraded) driver version in a firmware module in system memory as part of the firmware update.

The host processor to operate in a pre-boot mode, and in an operating system runtime mode. The host processor, while in the operating system runtime, to retrieve the firmware capsule payload from the memory, to update a cached operating system ESRT based on the firmware capsule payload, to retrieve updated firmware for the hot-pluggable device, and to create the ESRT capsule based on the updated firmware.
