TL;DR: The study demonstrates the importance of giving siblings the opportunity to express themselves, be it about their difficulty in dealing positively with their unique family situations in social and family contexts; about their feelings of shame and guilt; about the distress caused to them by their urges to identify with the sibling with a disability.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the impact of a person's disability on the psychological, social, family and professional life of that person's siblings. The research is based on a clinical method and case studies. An analysis is made of siblings' verbalizations in different contexts and with different aims: unstructured research interviews conducted with persons who do or do not have a sibling with a disability; meetings of parents, professionals and siblings of persons with a disability; family discussion-therapy. The study demonstrates the importance of giving siblings the opportunity to express themselves, be it about their difficulty in dealing positively with their unique family situations in social and family contexts; about their feelings of shame and guilt; about the distress caused to them by their urges to identify with the sibling with a disability. If denied such opportunities, they may develop symptoms that can seriously compromise their futures.

TL;DR: In this article, Freudian psychoanalysis has been reassessed in an attempt to develop an understanding of the psychology of femininity and the ideological oppression of women, and the author demonstrates that Freud's theories have much to offer women in the understanding of their sexuality and compares him to Estch and Laing whose contributions to the feminist cause, in her opinion, are less radical and more ephemeral.
Abstract: This text reassesses Freudian psychoanalysis in an attempt to develop an understanding of the psychology of femininity and the ideological oppression of women. Analyzing sexuality, femininity and the family as they are treated in the works of Freud, Estch and Laing, the author demonstrates that Freud's theories have much to offer women in the understanding of their sexuality, and compares him to Estch and Laing whose contributions to the feminist cause, in her opinion, are less radical and more ephemeral. To support her case she discusses some interpretations of Freud's work and shows how the misunderstanding of his concept of the unconscious mind has led to misinterpretation of his theories.

TL;DR: The methodological design of the Rapid Assessment, Response, and Evaluation Project, adopted by the Office of HIV/AIDS Policy in 1999, is presented as a model for using revised rapid assessment approaches within the context of public health policy development.
Abstract: Rapid assessment projects are expanding in the arenas of public health policy, planning, and program development in both developing and developed nations. This article reviews the methodological advances that have changed rapid assessment from a primarily “quick and dirty” approach for data collection into a public health tool for time-sensitive development of changes in intervention strategies, community-based organizational structure, program evaluation, and policy decisions. The methodological design of the Rapid Assessment, Response, and Evaluation Project, adopted by the Office of HIV/AIDS Policy (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) in 1999, is presented as a model for using revised rapid assessment approaches within the context of public health policy development.

TL;DR: A brief review of literature relating to children in families with a disabled member, including the 'young carers' and disability studies literature, and relevant works from the social psychology and sociology of childhood is presented in this paper.
Abstract: This paper presents a brief review of literature relating to children in families with a disabled member, including the 'young carers' and disability studies literature, and relevant works from the social psychology and sociology of childhood. Key themes identified in the literature are then illustrated by findings from two exploratory research studies that sought to explore the experiences and service needs of children in families with a disabled member, within two Scottish areas. The authors suggest that, although young people affected by disability in the family, including young carers, face significant problems, particularly in socially disadvantaged areas, there are other issues that need to be addressed. Alternative conceptual frameworks are proposed, which challenge the dominance of the young carers research paradigm.

TL;DR: The results show that mothers and fathers are more likely to view the situation differently than similarly, and for both parents, the situation offers the potential for transformation.
Abstract: This qualitative study explored the adaptation/transformation process in mothers and fathers at the individual, parental, marital and extrafamilial levels, and the similarities and differences in their experience of living with a child with cerebral palsy. Interviews were conducted with 13 mothers and 13 fathers of children with cerebral palsy. The results show that mothers and fathers are more likely to view the situation differently than similarly. For both parents, the situation offers the potential for transformation. Complementarity between mothers and fathers is an important factor in each of the adaptation or transformation subsystems. Both parents embark on a journey that changes their beliefs about difference, apply their new knowledge to every aspect of their life, and endeavour to normalize their situation.

TL;DR: Formalized Methods and Procedures in Content and Discourse Analysis in Contemporary French Sociological Research as discussed by the authors, State of the Arts and a Classification Attempt, is a survey of the state of the arts in French sociological research.
Abstract: Formalized Methods and Procedures in Content and Discourse Analysis in Contemporary French Sociological Research—State of the Arts and a Classification Attempt. An initial awareness is needed of the debates regarding the choice of research approaches in sociology and the diversity and specificity of methods currently being used in the domain of textual data analysis in France. In general the influence of the French socio-linguistic tradition looms large, including, on the one hand, the older works of Michel Pecheux on the “discursive formations” and his A.A.D. (Analyse Automatique du Discours, 1969), and on the other hand, two main perspectives of the “Ecole Francaise d'Analyse du/de Discours”—which refer to the speech actconcept and to the problematics of enunciation, and emphasizes the processes and “sociodiscursive practices” between socially-located speakers. Such theoretical conceptions and specific requirements lead to build on methodologies different from the classic, theme-based content analysis, ...
