Journal ArticleDOI

Acidic mammalian chitinase regulates epithelial cell apoptosis via a chitinolytic-independent mechanism.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that secreted AMCase feeds back in an autocrine and/or paracrine manner to protect pulmonary epithelial cells from growth factor withdrawal- and Fas ligand-induced apoptosis and that the cytoprotection is mediated via a PI3K/Akt-dependent and allosamidin-sensitive pathway that is independent of the chitinolytic activity of this chitinase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction of the c-Jun/JNK pathway and cyclin-dependent kinases in death of embryonic cortical neurons evoked by DNA damage.

TL;DR: C-Jun/JNK is activated following DNA damage and it is proposed that c-Jun is regulated by the JNK and CDK pathways and that both must be activated for efficient c- Jun activation to occur.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of T Helper Cell Differentiation--in Search of Master Genes

TL;DR: Recent findings on proteins that control the fate of TH0 differentiation, whether by promotion or inhibition, are reviewed, and the role of epigenesis in the differentiation process is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extended lifespan and reduced adiposity in mice lacking the FAT10 gene.

TL;DR: It is shown that FAT10 knockout prevents the development of age-associated obesity in mice while extending lifespan and vigor without the appearance of deleterious developmental effects, and suggest novel roles of FAT10 in immune metabolic regulation that impact aging and chronic disease.
