Association of Loneliness and Wisdom With Gut Microbial Diversity and Composition: An Exploratory Study
Tanya T. Nguyen,Xinlian Zhang,Tsung-Chin Wu,Jinyuan Liu,Collin Le,Xin M. Tu,Rob Knight,Dilip V. Jeste +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the association of loneliness and wisdom with the gut microbiome and found that lower levels of depression and higher levels of wisdom, compassion, social support, and social engagement were associated with greater phylogenetic richness and diversity of the Gut microbiome.

Microbial context predicts SARS-CoV-2 prevalence in patients and the hospital built environment
Clarisse Marotz,Pedro Belda-Ferre,Farhana Ali,Promi Das,Shi Huang,Kalen Cantrel,Lingjing Jiang,Cameron Martino,Rachel E. Diner,Gibraan Rahman,Daniel McDonald,George Armstrong,Sho Kodera,Sonya Donato,Gertrude Ecklu-Mensah,Neil Gottel,Mariana C. Salas Garcia,Leslie Y. Chiang,Rodolfo A. Salido,Justin P. Shaffer,MacKenzie Bryant,Karenina Sanders,Greg Humphrey,Gail Ackermann,Niina Haiminen,Kristen L. Beck,Ho-Cheol Kim,Anna Paola Carrieri,Laxmi Parida,Yoshiki Vázquez-Baeza,Francesca J. Torriani,Rob Knight,Jack A. Gilbert,Daniel A. Sweeney,Sarah M. Allard +34 more
TL;DR: A single amplicon sequence variant from the genus Rothia was highly predictive of SARS-CoV-2 across sample types, and had higher prevalence in positive surface and human samples, even when comparing to samples from patients in another intensive care unit prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Evaluating the information content of shallow shotgun metagenomics
Benjamin Hillmann,Gabriel A. Al-Ghalith,Robin R. Shields-Cutler,Qiyun Zhu,Daryl M. Gohl,Kenneth B. Beckman,Rob Knight,Dan Knights +7 more
TL;DR: This work evaluated the information content of shallow shotgun sequencing with as low as 0.5 million sequences per sample as an alternative to 16S sequencing for large human microbiome studies and found that shallow shotgun recovers accurate species-level taxonomic and functional profiles of the human microbiome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activating and inhibiting connections in biological network dynamics
TL;DR: It is reported that the balance between activating and inhibiting connections is important in determining whether network dynamics reach steady state or oscillate, and neutral evolution or selection of this parameter may affect the behavior of biological networks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phase II study of lenalidomide (Len), bortezomib (Bz), and dexamethasone (Dex) in patients (pts) with relapsed or relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (MM)
Kenneth C. Anderson,Sundar Jagannath,Andrzej Jakubowiak,S. Lonial,Noopur Raje,Robert Schlossman,Nikhil C. Munshi,Rob Knight,Dixie-Lee Esseltine,Paul G. Richardson +9 more
TL;DR: This phase ll study evaluated Len/Bz/Dex at the phase-l MTD in up to 65 pts with relapsed/refractory MM, following 1–3 prior lines of therapy.
