Markers of Gut Barrier Function and Microbial Translocation Associate with Lower Gut Microbial Diversity in People with HIV
Ronald J. Ellis,Jennifer E. Iudicello,Robert K. Heaton,Stéphane Isnard,John Lin,Jean-Pierre Routy,Sara Gianella,Martin Hoenigl,Rob Knight +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the relationship of gut barrier integrity, as indexed by plasma occludin levels (higher levels corresponding to greater loss of occludiin from the gut barrier), to gut microbial diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
The “Minimum Information about an ENvironmental Sequence” (MIENS) specification

Neubold,Anna Oliver,Elmar Pruesse,Christian Quast,Patrick D. Schloss,Rohini Sinha,A. Whitely +93 more
TL;DR: Adoption of MIENS will enhance the ability to analyze natural genetic diversity across the Tree of Life as it is currently being documented by massive DNA sequencing efforts from myriad ecosystems in the ever-changing biosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Immunization With the Soil-Derived Bacterium Mycobacterium vaccae on Stress Coping Behaviors and Cognitive Performance in a "Two Hit" Stressor Model.
Christine L. Foxx,Jared D. Heinze,Antonio Gonzalez,Fernando Vargas,Fernando Vargas,Michael V. Baratta,Ahmed I. Elsayed,Jessica R Stewart,Kelsey M. Loupy,Mathew R. Arnold,M.C. Flux,Saydie A Sago,Philip H. Siebler,Lauren N. Milton,Margaret W. Lieb,James E. Hassell,David G. Smith,Kyo A K Lee,Sandra A. Appiah,Evan J. Turek,Monika Fleshner,Pieter C. Dorrestein,Pieter C. Dorrestein,Rob Knight,Kenneth P. Wright,Christopher A. Lowry +43 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used male C57BL/6NCrl mice to determine if repeated immunization with M. vaccae is an effective countermeasure in a "two hit" stress exposure model of chronic disruption of rhythms (CDR) followed by acute social defeat (SD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Menopause Is Associated with an Altered Gut Microbiome and Estrobolome, with Implications for Adverse Cardiometabolic Risk in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos
Brandilyn A. Peters,Juan Lin,Qibin Qi,Mykhaylo Usyk,Carmen R. Isasi,Yasmin Mossavar-Rahmani,Carol A. Derby,Nanette Santoro,Krista M. Perreira,Martha L. Daviglus,Michelle A. Kominiarek,Jianwen Cai,Rob Knight,Robert D. Burk,Robert C. Kaplan +14 more
TL;DR: The results from a large study of Hispanic/Latino women and men suggest that the postmenopausal gut microbiome in women is slightly more similar to the Gut microbiome in men and that menopause depletes specific gut pathogens and decreases the hormone-related metabolic potential of the gut microbiome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patients with basal ganglia damage show preserved learning in an economic game.
TL;DR: It is shown that learning in strategic games is spared in patients with BG damage, suggesting social decision making is not fully reliant on the BG, and higher-order learning processes are dissociable from trial-and-error learning.
