Journal Article
Sonographically monitored amniocentesis to decrease intraoperative complications.
Roberto Romero,P Jeanty,E A Reece,Peter Grannum,Michael B. Bracken,Ross S. Berkowitz,John C. Hobbins +6 more
TL;DR: There was a statistically significant decrease in the incidence of bloody and dry taps of the first needle insertion and also in the number of patients that required multiple needle insertions with the sonographically monitored technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chronic chorioamnionitis displays distinct alterations of the amniotic fluid proteome
Giovanna Ogge,Roberto Romero,Roberto Romero,Deug Chan Lee,Francesca Gotsch,Nandor Gabor Than,JoonHo Lee,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Zhong Dong,Pooja Mittal,Pooja Mittal,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Chong Jai Kim,Chong Jai Kim +15 more
TL;DR: The findings herein strongly suggest that there is a pathophysiological association between the changes of immunomodulatory proteins in the amniotic fluid and chronic chorioamnionitis, a histological manifestation of maternal anti‐fetal allograft rejection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amniotic fluid volume in intra-amniotic inflammation with and without culture-proven amniotic fluid infection in preterm premature rupture of membranes
TL;DR: Oligohydramnios was more frequent in patients with culture-proven AF infection than in those with intra-amniotic inflammation and a negative AF Culture, and there was no significant difference in the median AFI or in the frequency of oligo-hydramnio according to the presence or absence of intra-ammiotic inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Placental growth hormone is increased in the maternal and fetal serum of patients with preeclampsia
Pooja Mittal,Jimmy Espinoza,Sonia S. Hassan,Juan Pedro Kusanovic,Samuel Edwin,Jyh Kae Nien,Francesca Gotsch,Nandor Gabor Than,Offer Erez,Shali Mazaki-Tovi,Roberto Romero +10 more
TL;DR: The observations reported herein are novel and suggest that PGH may play a role in the mechanisms of disease in preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibiotic administration reduces the rate of intraamniotic inflammation in preterm prelabor rupture of the membranes.
Marian Kacerovsky,Roberto Romero,Martin Stepan,Jaroslav Stranik,Jan Maly,Lenka Pliskova,Radka Bolehovska,Vladimir Palicka,Helena Zemlickova,Helena Hornychova,Jiri Spacek,Bo Jacobsson,Percy Pacora,Ivana Musilova +13 more
TL;DR: Whether antimicrobial agents can reduce the magnitude of the intraamniotic inflammatory response in patients with PPROM by assessing the concentrations of interleukin-6 in amniotic fluid before and after antibiotic treatment is determined.
