Journal ArticleDOI
Single and Serial Fetal Biometry to Detect Preterm and Term Small- and Large-for-Gestational-Age Neonates: A Longitudinal Cohort Study.
Adi L. Tarca,Edgar Hernandez-Andrade,Edgar Hernandez-Andrade,Hyunyoung Ahn,Hyunyoung Ahn,Maynor Garcia,Maynor Garcia,Zhonghui Xu,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,Steven J. Korzeniewski,H. Saker,H. Saker,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Sonia S. Hassan,Sonia S. Hassan,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo,Roberto Romero +19 more
TL;DR: When growth abnormalities are defined based on birth weight, growth velocity does not provide additional information when compared to the last measurement for predicting SGA and LGA neonates, with both approaches detecting one-half of the neonates from data collected at ≤32 weeks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular immune responses in amniotic fluid of women with preterm labor and intra‐amniotic infection or intra‐amniotic inflammation
Nardhy Gomez-Lopez,Roberto Romero,Jose Galaz,Jose Galaz,Yi Xu,Yi Xu,Bogdan Panaitescu,Rebecca Slutsky,Kenichiro Motomura,Kenichiro Motomura,Navleen Gill,Navleen Gill,Robert Para,Robert Para,Percy Pacora,Percy Pacora,Eun Jung Jung,Eun Jung Jung,Chaur-Dong Hsu,Chaur-Dong Hsu +19 more
TL;DR: Preterm birth is commonly preceded by preterm labor, a syndrome that is causally linked to both intra‐amniotic infection and intra-amniotic inflammation, but the stereotypical cellular immune responses in these two clinical conditions are poorly understood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial manganese superoxide dismutase mRNA expression in human chorioamniotic membranes and its association with labor, inflammation, and infection.
Nandor Gabor Than,Roberto Romero,Adi L. Tarca,Sorin Draghici,Offer Erez,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Yeon Mee Kim,Sun Kwon Kim,Edi Vaisbuch,Gerard Tromp +9 more
TL;DR: The increase in Mn SOD mRNA expression by fetal membranes in term labor and in histological chorioamnionitis in PTL and PPROM suggests that the fetus deploys anti-oxidant mechanisms to constrain the inflammatory processes in the chorioammiotic membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential expression pattern of genes encoding for anti-microbial peptides in the fetal membranes of patients with spontaneous preterm labor and intact membranes and those with preterm prelabor rupture of the membranes
Offer Erez,Roberto Romero,Adi L. Tarca,Tinnakorn Chaiworapongsa,Yeon Mee Kim,Nandor Gabor Than,Edi Vaisbuch,Sorin Draghici,Gerard Tromp +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, qRT-PCR was used to detect DEFA1, DEFB1, GNLY, and S100A9 gene expression in the choriamniotic membranes in pregnancies complicated with PTL and intact membranes or PPROM, with and without histologic chorioamnionitis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Collaborative Study on 4-Dimensional Echocardiography for the Diagnosis of Fetal Heart Defects The COFEHD Study
Jimmy Espinoza,Wesley Lee,Christine H. Comstock,Roberto Romero,Roberto Romero,Lami Yeo,Lami Yeo,Giuseppe Rizzo,Dario Paladini,Fernando Viñals,Reuven Achiron,Liat Gindes,Alfred Abuhamad,Elena Sinkovskaya,Evie Russell,Simcha Yagel +15 more
TL;DR: Four‐dimensional volume data sets can be remotely acquired and accurately interpreted by different centers, and among centers with technical expertise, 4DUS is an accurate and reliable method for fetal echocardiography.
