PIV measurements of flow within plugs in a microchannel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used particle image velocimetry (PIV) to study the internal circulation of aqueous plugs in two-phase flow within 762-μm internal diameter FEP Teflon tubing with FC-40 as the segmenting fluid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Active cooling of a mobile phone handset

TL;DR: In this article, the applied thermal engineering problem of an active cooling solution within a typical mobile phone architecture by implementing a custom centrifugal fan within the mobile phone was addressed, and the results showed that the power level dissipated by a phone for a constant surface temperature may be increased by ∼50-75% depending on pressure drop induced by the internal phone architecture.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of steady-state thermal and mechanical modelling on tubular solar receivers

TL;DR: This article compiles literature engaged in steady-state thermal and mechanical modelling of tubular solar receivers, indicating a trend towards semi-empirical techniques, offering greater flexibility and accuracy than simplified analytical methods, without imposing a considerable computational expense that is inherent with more detailed numerical models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low profile fan and heat sink thermal management solution for portable applications

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate two heat sink designs with mini-channel features, applicable to low profile applications, and highlight the importance of designing an integrated thermal management solution at this scale rather than fan or heat sink in isolation.
