Abstract: A thin film of the ternary chalcogenide glassy alloy (As2Se3)90Ge10 has been deposited on a glass substrate by the thermal evaporation technique under vacuum. The optical parameters, refractive index (n) and extinction coefficient (k), have been calculated in the wavelength range 400–1500 nm by analysing the transmission spectrum. The dispersion of the refractive index is described in terms of a Wemple–DiDomenico single oscillator model. The value of the static refractive index has been found to be 2.518. The optical absorption edge is described using a non-direct transition model proposed by Tauc and the optical band gap calculated by Tauc's extrapolation is 1.58 ± 0.01 eV. The dielectric properties and optical conductivity has also been calculated.

TL;DR: While the book is a standard fixture in most chemical and physical laboratories, including those in medical centers, it is not as frequently seen in the laboratories of physician's offices (those either in solo or group practice), and I believe that the Handbook can be useful in those laboratories.
Abstract: There is a special reason for reviewing this book at this time: it is the 50th edition of a compendium that is known and used frequently in most chemical and physical laboratories in many parts of the world. Surely, a publication that has been published for 56 years, withstanding the vagaries of science in this century, must have had something to offer. There is another reason: while the book is a standard fixture in most chemical and physical laboratories, including those in medical centers, it is not as frequently seen in the laboratories of physician's offices (those either in solo or group practice). I believe that the Handbook can be useful in those laboratories. One of the reasons, among others, is that the various basic items of information it offers may be helpful in new tests, either physical or chemical, which are continuously being published. The basic information may relate

TL;DR: The introduction of magnetic nanoparticles in a variety of solid matrices allows the combination of well-known procedures for catalyst heterogenization with techniques for magnetic separation.
Abstract: Recovery and reuse of expensive catalysts after catalytic reactions are important factors for sustainable process management. The aim of this Review is to highlight the progress in the formation and catalytic applications of magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic nanocomposites. Directed functionalization of the surfaces of nanosized magnetic materials is an elegant way to bridge the gap between heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. The introduction of magnetic nanoparticles in a variety of solid matrices allows the combination of well-known procedures for catalyst heterogenization with techniques for magnetic separation.

TL;DR: In this article, the analysis of various parameters of reaction which could be used for better understanding of synthesis process and control of microstructure and property of spinel ferrite nanopowder products was the main objective of this review article.
Abstract: Recent developments and trends of sol-gel auto-combustion method for spinel ferrite nanomaterial synthesis are briefly discussed and critically analyzed. The analysis of various parameters of reaction which could be used for better understanding of synthesis process and control of microstructure and property of spinel ferrite nanopowder products was the main objective of this review article. Special attention was paid to variety of particle size and phase purity. For these purposes the correlation between complexant, oxygen balance and combustion process chemical additives, as well as heating mechanism and atmosphere, was established. These results are relevant from standpoints of both application and processing of ferrites.
